Abstract

In a lamp dimmer circuit the triac 10 is periodically gated on by gate circuit 13 to control the flow of ac current through the lamp 26. When the triac is non-conducting the transistor 14, in parallel with the triac, is biased on by bias circuit 16 to permit a current, less than the holding or latching current of the triac, to flow to the lamp.
