Abstract

The present invention provides a nucleic acid construct encoding polypeptides which confer resistance to Xanthomonas spp. The nucleic acid construct consists of a RRK polynucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide comprising extracellular LRR (leucine rich repeats) domain and cytoplasmic protein kinase domain. The nucleic acids can be used to produce transgenic rice and tomato plants resistant to the pathogen.
