Kjernen er bygget opp med lam- eller (4) av minst ett treslag, og yt- terlaget (2) er fortrinnsvis også bygget av staver (3), gjerne av et annet, ed- lere eller utplukket trevirke. Det tre- virket som er brukt for både kjernen og ytterlaget er forhåndsbehandlet ved tørking/oppvarming til høy temperatur. Bjelken er anvendelig for dekorative og konstruksjonsmessige formål i byg- ninger.
