Abstract
En undervanns kontrollmodul (25) senkes med en løfteline (28) fra havoverflaten til en operativ stilling der den er i inngrep med en monteringsbasis (26), og kan opphentes på den samme måten. De første og andre deler av konnektorene definerer felles tetningsflater som etter tilkobling ligger i et plan parallelt med aksen for tappen (29). På denne måte er konnektorene anordnet på tvers av aksen for tappen, slik at angrepslinjen for separasjonskrefter alltid er i rett vinkel med retningen som tappen (29) kan beveges i. Dette arrangementet reduserer vesentlig den samlede størrelse og vekt av kontrollmodulen (25), som sikkert kan bli holdt i sin stilling av sin egenvekt uten anordning av noen høyt strekkopptakende sperremekanisme.An underwater control module (25) is lowered by a lift line (28) from the sea surface to an operative position where it engages with a mounting base (26) and can be retrieved in the same way. The mounting base (26) is provided with a connecting ring (34) for receiving a pin (29) which forms part of the control module (25). The pin (29) and the connecting ring (34) carry, respectively, first and second portions of two-piece connectors (40 in Fig. 4) which are adapted to form a connection each time the pin (29) is in the operative axial position of the connecting ring (34). but which is disconnected while the control module (25) is lifted away from the mounting base (26). The first and second portions of the connectors define common sealing surfaces which, after connection, lie in a plane parallel to the axis of the pin (29). In this way, the connectors are arranged across the axis of the pin, so that the line of attack of separation forces is always at right angles to the direction in which the pin (29) can move. This arrangement substantially reduces the overall size and weight of the control module (25), which can certainly be held in the position of its own weight without the provision of any high tension absorbing locking mechanism.
