Abstract
Celle for fremstilling av aluminium ved elektrolyse av en smeltet elektrolytt, særlig elektrolyse av alumina løst i en smeltet fluoridbasert elektrolytt slik som kryolitt, hvor det under anodene er korresponderende gittere (10) fremstilt av side-ved-side oppadstående eller hellende vegger (11, 12) av aluminiumbestandig materiale,. med bunnsider som står på en keramisk belagt karboncellebunn (30) dekket av dammen (32) av smeltet aluminium. Bunnendene av gitterveggene danner en grunnflate som er stor sammenlignet med høyden av veggene. Hvert gitter (10) står stabilt på cellebunnen under drift av cellen, er lett å fjerne fra cellen og å sette inn i cellen, og har generelt vertikale, gjennomgående åpninger (13) dimensjonert for å la det smeltede celleinnhold okkupere innsiden av de gjennomgående åpninger. Åpningene (13) er i forbindelse med det smeltede aluminium i dammen eller laget (32), slik at det smeltede aluminium okkuperer minst en del av høyden av åpningene (13).
