Abstract

Uorganisk partikkelformet materiale som er egnet for anvendelse som pigmentmateriale i en papirbestryknings- blanding, har en fordeling av partikkelstørrelsen som, når den fretrtstilles som en kurve av vekt% av partiklene som har en ekvivalent sfærisk diameter (esd) av en bestemt størrelse, mot partikkel-esd uttrykt i ^m og plottet på en logaritmisk skala med grurmtall 10, oppviser de følgende egenskaper: (a) en første topp ved en grov partikkelstørrelse og en andre topp ved en finere partikkelstørrelse og en senkning eller dal mellom den første og den andre topp, hvor den midlere partikkelstørrelse X1 av partiklene som utgjør den første topp, ligger i området 2-4 /xm og (b) forholdet mellom den første og den andre topp er slik at verdien av den midlere partikkelstørrelse X2 av partiklene som utgjør den andre topp, skiller seg med minst 0,5 fra verdien for X1 på kurven over fordelingen av partikkelstørrelsen. Dette materiale kan fremstilles ved å blande et grovt pigmentmateriale og et fint pigmentmateriale som har en egnet partikkelstørrelsesfordeling. Det grove materiale er fortrinnsvis kalsiumkarbonat. Det fine materiale kan utvelges fra kaolin, metakaolin, kalsiumkarbonat (malt eller felt), kalsiumsulfat, mica og/eller titandioksyd. En bestrykningsblanding som iruieholder det partikkel- formede materiale kan anvendes for å bestryke papir for diverse anvendelser, også blekkstråletrykking, papir med matt overflate for offsettrykking og belagt avispapir.
