Abstract

To increase the contamination susceptibility to leaching, the hydrochloric acid solution is increased by one or more of the following: (i) adding an effective amount of an added chloride salt, (ii) pretreating the titanium-containing material with a solution of an effective amount of a carbonate salt, preferably an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal carbonate and / or (iii) pretreatment of the titanium-containing material with a solution of an effective amount of a hydroxide, preferably an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide, whereby the propensity to remove the pollutants is increased.
