Abstract
An extinguishing plate stack (1) for an arc extinguishing chamber has several extinguishing plates set into a U-shaped holding part (4) made of an insulating material. Arc outlets (14) are provided in the web of the holding part (4) opposite to the entrance of the arc. The web carries on its outer side two sinuous ribs (15, 16) which increase the air gap between adjacent arc outlets (14). Outer arcing is thus avoided, although the arc outlets (14) may be large enough for the ionised arc gases to flow freely out of the extinguishing plate stack (1). Together with the walls of the housing, in which the extinguishing plate stack (1) is accommodated, the ribs (15, 16) form three gas flow channels, making it even easier for the arc gases to flow out.
