A number of predetermined rules are provided to translate information stored in memory into a form compatible with the other computer environment (16). A sloy routine is used to sequentially test whether to implement a specific rule from the predetermined set of rules. The loop routine includes a mechanism for identifying a subset of rules, from the predetermined amount, to be executed in response to the received information. Each rule has attached itself to a sensitive area, and a mechanism has been provided to take into account overlapping sensitive areas for different rules. The sensitive area of a specific rule is flagged when information received from the first computer environment (14) strikes this sensitive area.
