Abstract
Det beskrives et tømmerhøstings-system hvor tømmeret på hugstfeltet sorteres automatisk ved hjelp av ultrasonisk testing. Ultralydbølgepulser sendes inn i tømmerstokken for påvisning av innvendige defekter inne i tømmerstokken ved hjelp av endringer i ultralydbølgepulsenes gjennomløpstid gjennom i det minste et parti av tømmerstokken. En datamaskin anvendes til å bestemme tømmerstokkens kvalitetsgrad og til på grunnlag av data for gjennomgangstid og signaler som vedrører tømmerstokkens lengde og diameter, å frembringe et utgaende kvalitetsgradssignal. Ved hjelp av en merkeinnretning merkes tør.jnerstokken med en maling i en avvikende farge for derved å vise dens kvalitetsgrad, i respons til mottaket av det utgaende kvalitetsgradssignal.
