Abstract

Flytende krystallinske materialer vinner økende betydning Innenfor elektro-optlske bryter- og fremvls- nlngslnnretnlnger. I den senere tid har spesielt også ferroelektriske flytende krystallinske blandinger vært undersøkt og anvendt i fremvisnlngsinnretnlnger. En spesielt viktig fysikalsk størrelse for beskrivelse av FLC-blandinger er den spontane polarisasjonen (Ps). På den ene siden fører en høy spontan polarisasjon til korte omkoblingstider, på den annen siden Inntrer ved høye Ps-verdier en optisk hysterese som blant annet fører til såkalte "spøkelsesbilder". . Ved anvendelse av FLC-blandinger med høy spontan , polarisasjon (Ps 20 nC/cn^) og en naturlig hellksgang- ¿' høyde på mindre enn den halve sj ikttykkelsen i en ! SSFLC-fremvisningsinnretning med en sjikttykkelse på l i til 10 pm kan problemet med optisk hysterese omgås på j tross av høy spontan polarisasjon. Også FLC-blandinger med Ps> 40 nC/cm2 kan kobles under disse betingelsene.
