Abstract

Field of the Invention The invention relates to a process for running down a reactor which is used to produce a at least partially liquid hydrocarbon product by reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen at elevated temperature and pressure and using a catalyst, which is equipped with a cooling device and with a device for recycling. the gas through the catalyst to equalize the temperature of the catalyst, comprising the steps of: (i) interrupting the supply of synthesis gas; (ii) relieving the pressure in the reactor downstream from the catalyst and supplying the reactor upstream from the inert gas catalyst; and (iii) cooling the catalyst to ambient conditions. The invention further relates to a reactor suitable for carrying out the run-down process.
