Description
Foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrorer vevede polyolefinbånd-tekstiler omfattende polyolefinbåndgarn i varperetningen og som i veftretninger inneholder gjennomsnittlig minst 1 The present invention relates to woven polyolefin ribbon textiles comprising polyolefin ribbon yarns in the warp direction and which in the weft direction contain on average at least 1
spunnet garn pr. lo garn i veftretningen.spun yarn per loose yarn in the weft direction.
Textiles made of polyolefin ribbon yarn have recently achieved commercial success for such purposes as carpet underlays, industrial textiles, sacks and textiles for furniture upholstery. The yarns from which these textiles are woven generally have a flat cross-sectional shape and are usually produced by extruding a polyolefin resin into a film of suitable thickness after which the film is split into yarn bands of suitable length. The tape yarn can be oriented in the longitudinal direction of the film to give a high breaking strength and is easy to manufacture into a woven material, as well as being very affordable, which allows the manufacture of a textile with a maximum area and strength in relation to the amount of raw material used.
I tillegg til å være meget okonomiske, utviser vevede tekstiler av polyolefinbåndgarn de fordelaktige fysikalske egenskaper som generelt utvises av polyolefintekstiler, innbefattende en hoy styrke i forhold til vekten, motstandsdyktighet oven- In addition to being very economical, woven fabrics of polyolefin ribbon yarn exhibit the advantageous physical properties generally exhibited by polyolefin textiles, including a high strength-to-weight ratio, resistance to
Med polyolefin menes i denne sammen-heng spesielt HD-polyetylen og krystallinsk polypropylén, men andre polyolefiner med tilsvarende strukturelle egenskaper er egnet for anvendelse ved utovelse av oppfinnelsen og omfattes av denne. for many solvents and chemicals, flexibility, dimensional stability, as well as complete resistance to degradation by moisture and mildew. In this context, polyolefin is meant in particular HD polyethylene and crystalline polypropylene, but other polyolefins with similar structural properties are suitable for use in the development of the invention and are covered by it.
Although there are many potential applications of textiles woven from polyolefin ribbon yarns, certain difficulties arise when using the textiles for certain purposes as a result of the olefins' distinctive physical properties. For example will the natural smoothness of the polyolefin tape yarns in textiles with smooth and shiny outer surfaces. Textiles with glossy surfaces are not desirable for use, for example for industrial bag filling, as it is difficult to store and transport large stacks of bags with smooth surfaces.
The sharp edges and wide surfaces of the ribbon yarns give a considerable amount of cracking and crackling when the yarns rub against each other, either as a result of movement in the weave, or more particularly when one piece of textile comes into contact with another. Noise problems of this nature have slowed the acceptance of ribbon textile yarns for such purposes as padding materials for indoor and outdoor furniture.
Et ytterligere problem med polyolefinbåndgarn-tekstiler erA further problem with polyolefin ribbon yarn textiles is
deres "folelse". Feel is a term used within the textile industry to describe the textile's general behavior or "feel", and includes such factors as softness and voluminousness. As the polyolefin ribbon yarns generally only have a thickness of the order of 0.05 mm and have a smooth surface, textiles woven from them will bear little resemblance to the "feel" of textiles woven from natural fibers, which
har en etablert standard av kommersiell aksepterbarhet for mange anvendelser. has an established standard of commercial acceptability for many applications.
De fleste tepper fremstilles The smooth surface of the polyolefin yarns also creates problems when using textiles woven from them for backing materials for pile carpets or mats. Most carpets are manufactured
For tepper med en bedre kvalitet påfores et andre underlag over lateksen for å today by a tufting process in which strands of the pole yarn are fluffed through a woven first base material and then adhesively attached to the base by applying a latex layer on the underside of the carpet. For carpets with a better quality, a second layer is applied over the latex to
gi teppet en bedre "folelse" og dimensjonsstabilitet. På grunn give the carpet a better "feel" and dimensional stability. Due
Disse adKesjonsproblemer har j of the smooth, impermeable surface of the polyolefin yarns, commercially available latexes will not provide. strong adhesion njied the ribbon yarn backing textiles. These adhesion problems have j
ikke forhindret anvendelse av båndgarntekstiler som et forste underlag fordi fiberpolgarnene som stikker gjennom det primære underlag er mottagelige for lateksen, men adhesjonsproblemer har sinket anvendelsen av båndgarntekstiler i de sekundære underlag. did not prevent the use of ribbon yarn textiles as a primary substrate because the fiber pile yarns penetrating the primary substrate are susceptible to the latex, but adhesion problems have slowed the use of ribbon yarn textiles in the secondary substrates.
Although in US patent no. 3,443,541 it is obvious an improved adhesion. of ribbon yarn primary backing to the piles by replacing the weft ribbon yarn in the primary backing with crimped, continuous filament yarns, this attempt has not solved the problem of a satisfactory bond between the primary and secondary carpet backing.
US Patent No. 3,542,632 discloses a method of improving the "feel" and tackiness of ribbon yarn textiles by subjecting interwoven ribbon yarn textiles to a fibrillating device so that fibrils protrude from the surface of the ribbon textile. In French patent no. 2.ol7.124 it is obvious that the shiny smooth surface of a polyolefin sheet strip can be reduced by an abrasive action (tub cylinder). Despite these improvements, the industry, particularly the carpet industry, is looking for a ribbon yarn textile which has an even better "feel" and which is able to provide a better adhesion between the two layers.
Polyolefin tape textiles also exhibit the disadvantage that polyolefins are not easily receptive to dyes. Consequently, when carpets with polyolefin strip textiles as the primary underlay are used to cover steps, the undyed underlay will be easily visible. This "smile" effect is aesthetically undesirable and limits the price range for carpets in which polyolefin tape textiles can be used as the primary carpet underlay.
The general purpose of the present invention is to provide improved polyolefin tape textiles. A more particular purpose of the invention is to provide polyolefin tape textiles with improved "feel" and glueability. A further purpose of the invention is to provide polyolefin tape textiles with improved dyeability. The purposes of the invention can be achieved by providing polyolefin, ribbon textiles comprising ribbon yarn in the warp direction in which .
' veftretningen inneholder minst ett spunnet garn pr. lo garn i veftretningen. Folgelig har båndtekstilen ifolge foreliggende oppfinnelse en vesentlig bedre "folelse" ' the weft direction contains at least one spun yarn per loose yarn in the weft direction. It has been found that by replacing part or all of the rib yarn in the weft direction with spun yarn followed by napping of the textile, results in the formation of a significantly greater number of fibrils extending from the plane of the strip textile than can be obtained by fibrillation or napping of the textiles containing ribbed yarn only. Consequently, the tape textile according to the present invention has a significantly better "feel"
Under otherwise equal conditions, the bond strength for the carpet underlay according to the present invention is double or triple the bond strength obtained according to US patent no. 3,542,632. Furthermore, as explained hereinafter, the appropriate choice of the spun yarn makes it possible to produce polyolefin ribbon textiles with improved dyeability.
Under ellers like betingelser, vil By replacing parts or all of the tape yarn in the weft direction with spun yarn instead of crimped continuous yarn, as proposed in US patent no. 3,443,541, followed by napping also results in the formation of a significantly larger number of fibrils that extend from the plane of the tape textile , than what can be obtained by fibrillation after napping of textile according to US patent no. 3,443,541. Under otherwise equal conditions, will
et sekundært underlag inneholdende unappet spunnet veftegarna secondary substrate containing unapplied spun weft yarn
ha en bedre adhesjon til alle båndprimær-underlag enn sekundære underlag inneholdende nappe kontinuerlige veftgarn. Folgelig er det nodvendig at det anvendes spunnede garn ved utforelse av oppfinnelsen. have a better adhesion to all tape primary substrates than secondary substrates containing barely continuous weft yarns. Consequently, it is necessary that spun yarns are used when implementing the invention.
The new polyolefin tape textiles according to the present invention are composed of. polyolefin rib yarns in the warp direction to maximize the production advantages that are distinctive when weaving the ribbon yarns. Replacing the warp polyolefin ribbon yarns with spun yarns is not recommended, as this replacement makes it necessary for the spun yarn to be warp-glued and for the finished textile to be "de-glued", whereby one of the significant weaving advantages of ribbon yarns is lost. As replacing the weft polyolefin ribbon yarn with spun yarns increases the cost of the woven textile, it is economically advantageous to use the smallest possible amount of spun yarn which is consistent with the desired improvement in properties. However, it is within the scope of the invention to produce textiles in which the weft directions contain an average of 1 r-lo spun yarn per each strand of yarn in the weft thread. The best results at the lowest cost can be obtained with a weft ratio of 2-6 spun yarns per each pile yarn for primary backing and complete replacement for secondary backing. In general, it is preferred that the spun yarns are evenly distributed for reasons of uniformity, glueability and dyeability.
Når fargbarhet og/eller eliminering av "smiling" The spun yarns can be composed of one or more hydrophobic filament yarns (polyester, for example polyethylene terephthalate, polyamide, such as "nylon 6", "nylon 66", polyacrylamide, polypropylene, etc.) hydrophilic spun yarns (cotton, rayon, jute, etc. ) or mixtures of two or more fibers of the same or different type. In cases where the dyeability of the polyolefin tape textile is spun yarn of polypropylene is preferred due to its low price. When colorability and/or elimination of "smiling"
er av storste betydning, spesielt for primærunderlag for tepper,is of the greatest importance, especially for primary underlays for carpets,
er det vanligvis onskelig å anvende det samme spunnede garn i veftretningen som det som vil anvendes ved en etterfolgende flossing av teppeunderlaget. it is usually desirable to use the same spun yarn in the weft direction as that which will be used in a subsequent flossing of the carpet underlay.
For eksempel kan Mei? in detail, the textile according to the present invention, woven from polyolefin ribbon yarn, can be produced on a "Sulzer loom" using 4 - 15 warp ends per cm. Typically, the rib warp yarns on the fabric are produced by processing and stretching crystalline polypropylene into a film with a thickness of approx. o,o25 mm, after which the film is split into approx. 7 mm wide strips, after which the polypropylene strips are oriented and clamped to give 2 - 2.5 mm wide yarns. Alternatively, the strip yarns can be produced by extruding and stretching crystalline polypropylene into o.o5 mm fibers and splitting the polypropylene into 1 3 mm wide band without clamping. The weft or filling yarn is provided from cross coils and packages of the same polypropylene rib yarn used for the warp yarn and the spinning yarn (for example polypropylene 2.5/1 c.c. spun yarn). The loom can be programmed so that the shuttle feeds the appropriate yarn through the loom in any desired sequence. For example, can
i skyttelen innstilles til å overfore alt polypropylenspunnet garn,i in the shuttle is set to transfer all polypropylene spun yarn, i
For maximum adhesion of the secondary backing to the primary backing, it is desirable to use at least a 2 x 1 kyper construction for the side of the secondary backing which is in contact with the primary substrate. In this way, a maximum number of spun weft yarns will be available for napping and a maximum number of fibrils will be available for lamination of the secondary substrate to the frayed primary substrate. When the previously mentioned polypropylene tape yarns and polypropylene spun yarns are alternated or all the polypropylene spun yarn is used, there is approx. 4 weft yarns/cm.
After the woven ribbed fabric has left the "Sulzer" loom, it can be transferred to a napping station or wound on a roll for storage or for transport. In any case, it is used to achieve the advantages of the present invention. Suitable reciprocating or roller nippers include carders, nippers, tiger bristles etc.
I et intergrert system, fores fortrinnsvis den vevede ribbe-tekstil fra "Sulzer"-vevstolen og over en nappevalse i ca. In an integrated system, the woven rib textile is preferably fed from the "Sulzer" loom and over a napper roll for approx.
Typisk vil nappevalsen inneholde 4 - at right angles to the warp yarns or over a reciprocating brush parallel to the weft at a speed of approx. o.4 - 4.5 linear meters per my. Typically, the nip roller will contain 4 -
6 2,8 cm lange pinner pr. cm 2. Pinnene kan være fra 1,25 -6 2.8 cm long sticks per cm 2. The pins can be from 1.25 -
5 cm lange. Når tekstilen fores over den nappende overflate, 5 cm long. When the textile is lined over the napping surface,
vil pinnene trekke i garnet og danne fibriler, vanligvis uten noen vesentlig avslipning av polyolefinribbegarnet. the pins will pull the yarn and form fibrils, usually without any significant abrading of the polyolefin rib yarn.
If desired, the fabric can be napped by passing the fabric through the gap formed by napping rollers or between two napping surfaces, in which case the fibrils are formed on both sides of the fabric. This is advantageous for stabilizing the textile (preventing tangling after gluing and cutting), especially when the textile is to be used for carpet backing. The stabilization occurs because the fibrils are bonded to both sides of the tapes when they are treated with an adhesive, for example when the primary substrate is connected to the floss or when the secondary substrate is bonded to the primary substrate. In cases where the textile is napped only on one side, stabilization can be achieved by needle piercing the textile in the same manner as described in US Patent No. 3,542,632.!i The napped, woven polyolefin tape textile can be wound up, stored or transported, or used as a primary or secondary carpet underlay, etc.
