Description
Blokk-kopolymere og organiske sammensetninger inneholdende slike.
Foreliggende oppfinnelse angår blokk-kopolymere som er egnet for tilsetning til organiske flytende sammensetninger. Spesielt omhandler oppfinnelsen blokk-kopolymere sammensatt av minst to blokker og flytende sammensetninger inneholdende disse.
U.S. patent 5.050.511 beskriver blokk-kopolymere fremstilt av polystyren og alkylenoksyd. Metoden består består i å
danne en "levende polymer" av styrenet i nsarvær av en anione-katalysator, hvorpå alkylenoksydet tilsettes. Slike produkter vil imidlertid ikke være egnet som additiver til væskefonaede hydrokarboner og mangler egnede endégrupper for at additivene skal ha termisk og oksydativ stabilitet. Stoffene vil ha util-
strekkelig opplSselighet i smoreoljer til at de§kj$. være effektive. U.S. patent 3.219.725 beskiver blokk-kopolymere av oksymetylen og styren eller alfa-metylstyren ved polymerisering av styren og tilsetning av formaldehyd tønder dannelse av en poly-oksymetylenblokk. Det forstås at den resulterende blokk-kopolymer kan kjedeavsluttea ved forestring. Olefinoksyd, hb'yere alde-hyder, isocyanater og lignende kan erstatte styrenet. Bruk av en styrenpplymer som fSrste blokkdannende monomer eller erstat- /'
ning av denne med en polar monomer vil heller ikke her gi et flerfunksjonelt additiv for smoreoljer.
U.S. patent 3.281.499 beskriver blokk-kopolymere av oksymetylen og olefiner som styren. De resulterende produkter er stSpbare polymere med liten eller ingen opplSselighet i sidreol^er eller andre organiske væsker. U.S. patent 3.318.813 beskriver en tert-butyistyrenpolymer fremstilt ved anionisk polymerisasjon
med n-butyllitium som initiator. Polymerisasjonen avsluttes i metanol. Denne polymer sies å være egnet til forbedring av vis-kositétsindeksen (VI). De polymere som brukes i dette patent Inneholder ingen polare grupper. Slik kan disse homopolymere skilles fra kopolymere i henhold til foreliggende oppfinnelse. U.S. patent 3*175.997 angår en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av polymere med reaktive endégrupper, slik som butadien-styren-kopolymere ved omsetning med etylenoksyd og surgjSring av alkalimetallgruppen til en -0H-gruppe. Produktene brukes til klebe-stoffer og bindemidler. U.S. patent 2.835.658 beskriver behand-ling av styreh-lakton-blokkpolymere med diisocyanater. De polymere er elastomere fremstilt ved massepolymeri sas^on med fri
radikalinitiering. British patent 1.304.289 beskriver hydrogenerte butadien-styren-kopolymere som viskositetsindeks-forbedrere.
Disse polymere imeholder ingen polare polymerblokker.
AnsBkerne har nå funnet nye blokk-kopolymere av typen AB eller BAB, hvor A er en blokk av enten en polymer av alkylstyren med minst én alkylgruppe bundet til kjernen som inneholder minst 3 C-atomer, eller en hydrogenert kopolymer av et dien og styren eller alkylstyren, og B er en blokk av en polymer av pply(alkylenoksyd) eller poly(alkylensulfid), hvorved B-blokken kan utgjbre minst 1%, eller 1 ca. 50 vektprosent av den kopolymere. Disse kopolymere kan inneholde endégrupper, Z, avledet av en organisk eller uorganisk forbindelse som kan reagere med et ålkoksyd eller en alkohol. Z kan således vare hydroksy, alkoksy, metalloksy av alkalimetallserien, kafboksylat, sulfo-
nat, karbamat, isocyanat, diisocyanat, halogenkarbonyl eller heteroeyklisk nitrogen eller oksygen. Organiske, industrielle flytende sammensetninger som inneholder slike polymere har forbedret både rensevirkning og viskositetsindeks. SmBremidler som kjSretSy-smSréoljer, dieaeloljer, spesialoljer og gr^ase samt brennstoffer som bensin og brenseldlje er egnede flytende media for disse polymere.

FSrste trinn for fremstilling av kopolymere 1 henlold til<B>oppfinnelsen består i at.et alkylstyren eller en blanding av fortrinnsvis butadien og styren polymeriseres ved anionepolymerisasjon under dannelse av Å-polymeren. Initiator for denne reaksjon er en organometallisk^forbindelse av alkalimetallgruppen: litium, natrium, kalium, cesium og rubi-; dium. Formelen for disse initiatorer er RMy» hvor R betegner en organisk, mono- eller flervalent gruppe og kan være alkyl, alMe-nyl, aryl, aralkyl eller alkaryl og kan inneholde fra 1 - ca.
50 C-atomer og y betegner 1-4, fortrinnsvis 1 eller 2. Slike initiatorer som metyllltium, etyllitium,metylnatriura, propyl-litium, n-butyllitium, sek-butyllitium, tert-butyllitium, butyl-natrium, litiumnaftalen, natriumnaftalen, kaliumnaftalen, cesium-naftalen, fénylnåtriura, fenyllitium, bénzyllitium, kumylnatrium, kumylkalium, metylkalium, etylkalium osv. kan brukes til.denne reaksjonen. Videre kan man bruke metallinitiatore^inneholdende
et dianion som f.eks. alkalimetallsaltér av 1,1-difenyletylen
og alf a-metylstyren-tetrajaer og radikalanioninitiatorer av natrium-naf talentypen, som vil kunne danne BAB-kopolymere, Fristilling

av B-A-B og B-A-Brkopolymere kan skje ved flerfunksjonene initi-

atorer, f.eks. l,3t5-trilitiocykloheksan og 1,4,7,10-tetrakalium-dekan. Det forstås med anionisk polyraeri sas jon, at hvert molekyl initiator starter en anionisk polymerkjede, vidére vil et muliip-pelanion muliggjøre addisjon av en andre polar blokk på A-polymeren.
Anionpolymerisasjonsreaksjonen utføres i nærvær av enten et polart eller ikkepolart oppløsningsmiddel. Egnede opplSsningsmidler er heksan, heptan, oktan, benzen, toluen, sylen, tetrahydrofuran, etyleter, metyletyleter, 1,4-dioksan og andre alkaner, etere og aromatiske oppløsningsmidler, oljer og deres blandinger. Tetrahydrofuran er det foretrukne oppløs-ningsmicUSbl siden dette er et fremragende opplSsningsmiddel for begge polymerisasjonstrinn i henhold til oppfinnelsen.
Ved fremstilling av poly(alkylstyrenet), blokk A, blir alkylstyren oppløst i et opplSsningsmiddel og polymerisert
i nærvar av fra IO*"1 til 10"^'mol anionisk initiator pr. 100 g alkylstyren. Egnede alkylstyrener til dette trinnet av oppfinnelsen er propylstyren, n-butylstyren, i-butyls^rren, t-butylstyren, n-amylstyren, i-amylstyren, heksylstyrengr, heptyl-styrener, metylpropylstyren, metylbutylstyren og lignende. Butylst$rener foretrekkes. Blandinger av forskjellige alkylstyrener eller et alkylstyren med styren kan også brukes, fortrinnsvis i et forhold som fører til et middel på minst 2 C-atomer alkylsubstituent pr. benzenkjerae. Polymerisasjonen gjennomføres tilstrekkelig lenge til at man f år en blokk av poly(alkylstyren), inntil det ikke foregår ytterligere polymerisasjon. Moltæktene etter dette første trinnet kan liggfe på fra 1.000 til over 250.000. Sluttgruppen på denne "levende polymer"
består i. -OM, avledet av en organometallisk initiator. Man vil forstå at denne gruppen muliggjør addisjon av en polar blokk B ved påfølgende polymerisasjonstrinn. Uttrykket "levende polymer" skal bety at polymeriaasjonsreaksjoneh som omfatter alkylstyren (samt dien-styren-kopolymere) ikke har noe avsluttende trinn og kan fortsette inntil det ikke finnes mer monomer. En polymerkjede starter med hver ekvivalent initiator bg oppbruker tilgjengelig
monomer inntil det ikke finnes mere. Regulering av molekyl vekten oppnås ved avpassing av styren/initiator-forholdet. , Man antar at alkylgruppen på styrenkjernen gir den; -
fremstilte kopolymer tilstrekkelig oppløselighet i oljer eller hydrokarboner eller syntetiske brennstoff og smørem^dler som ikke er av hydrokarbonopprinnelse. Dien-styren- og dien-alkylstyren-kopolymere har også den ønskede oppløselighet i jordolje og andre industrielle vesker og kan brukes som blokk A. Slike
diner som fortrinnsvis butadien og isopren og videre 2,3-dimetyl-butadien, 2,3-dlfenylbutadien og andre med strukturen HgCaC-Q^CHg hvor de hengende val>§hser er substituert med hydrogen eller alkyl eller arylgrupper med C^- C10, og styren eller tidligere nevnte alkylstyrener danner egnede kopolymere som denne utgave av oppfinnelsen.
For å illustrere polymerisasjonen av di en- eg styren-kopolymere, vil den følgende beskrivelse Omhandle butadien-styren-systemet som representativt for denne utgave av opp-innelsen. Denne polymerisasjonen kan skje enten ved tilfeldig polymerisasjon eller blokkpolymerisasjon. Den tilfeldige kopolymer foretrekkes ifølge oppfinnelsen. For dette formål tilsettes et tilfeldig grupperingsmiddel til polymerisasjons-reaksjonsblandingen. Egnede tilfeldige grupperingsmidler omfatter: etere som dietyleter, dimetoksyetan, bis(2-metoksy-etyleter), l,2-bis(metokstyetoksy)etan og tetrahydrofuran. Andre tilfeldige grupperingsmidler omfatter alkalimetallsalter av C-^ - CgQ-alkoholer eller fenoler som f.eks.: kalium-t-butoksyd eller kalium-t-amyloksyd. Andre midler er fosfitt-triestere som tri* butylfosfitt, trisubstituerte triaziner, dimetylpyridin, kalsium-acetonyl eller kalium- eller natriummetaller.
Siden det finnes resterende vinylgrupper i molekylet som vil kunne oksyderes eller gå over til andre ne.dbrytnings-former ved bruk, er det etter avslutning av polymerisasjonen av butadien og styren gunstig å k jedeavslutte star^i-kopolymerisa-sjonen ved å tilsette en liten mengde av den polare forbindelse av blokk B, som f.eks. etylenoksyd, fulgt av en liten mengde mineraHsyre eller eddiksyre, og la den polymere gjennomgå hydrogenering, eller hydrogenere først og deretter surgjøre. Det faller også innenfor oppfinnelsen at hydrogeneringen foretas etter den fullstendige addering av den polare blokk, f.eks. etylénoksyd. Hydrogeneringen gjennomføres i nærvær av^en heterogen eller homogen hydrogeneringskatalysator. Heterogene katalysatorer kan være metaller av platinaserien som platina, palladium Og lignende, jern, kobolt eller nikkel, særlig Raney-nikkel. Katalysemetallene kan brukes alene eller på et bsremedium som kull, silisiumoksyd, aluminiumoksyd o.l. Homogene katalysatorer omfatter organiske salter av disse metaller som f.eks. nikkel- : acetylacetonat, nikkeldiisopropylsalicylat, nikkelnaftånat, nlkkeloktoat og nikkeletylheksanoat. Homogene katalysatorer omfatter tris(trlfenyl)fosfin-rhodiumklorid og andre metall-forbindelser fra gruppe 7111*særlig en forbindelse fremstilt ved omsetning av en aluininiumtrialkylf orbindelse med et organisk nikkel- eller koboltsalt, f.eks. ved omsetning av aluminium-triisobutyl med nikkelnaftenat eller 2-etylheksanoat.
Enhetene av butadien og styren i den første blokken kan inneholde fra 5 - 70% styrenenheter basert på det totale antall enheter av butadien og styren tilsammen, fortrinnsvis mellom 20 og 60$ styren. Hydrogeneringskatalysatoren tilsettes en mengde på fr a ca. 0,000596 og opp til 10 vektprosent av den polymere,- fortrinnsvis mellom 0,005 og 3% » De nedre konsentra-sjonsområder er egnet, f or homogene katalysatorer,, øvre område ofr heterogene katalysatorer. U.S. patent 3.294*768 angir en rekke katalysatorer som er egnet til fremstilling av tilfeldige butadien-styreh-addukter og er av samme type som nevnte Inia-torer av RMy-oppskriften.
Neste trinn ved fremstilling av blokk-kopolymere ifølge oppfinnelsen er å omsette blokk A polymeren enten poly( alkylstyren) (PAS) eller hydrogenert butadien-styren-kopolymer (HBDS), med den polare forbindelsen. I første tilfelle settes alkylenoksydet eller -sulfidet direkte til PAS-opplSsningen. I sist-nevnte tilfelle beholdes HBDS-kopolymeren fortrinnsvis i den hydrogenerte reaksjonsmassen, selv om den eventuelt kari opparbeides og oppløses på nytt i et oppløsningsmiddel. Man tilsetter en katalysator for.alkylenoksydpolymerisesjonen til HBDS-oppløs-ilingen. Slike katalysatorer omfatter: kalium-t-butoksyd, kalium-t-amyloksyd, kaliumhydroksyd. Antall mol katalysator vil vare emtrent det samme som for anionisk initiator. Derpå blir alkylenoksydet tilsatt til HBDS-oppløsningen. Mengden. alkylenoksyd som tilsettes til oppløsningen er fra 1 - 50$, fortrinnsvis fra 5 r 25% t på vektbasis av den polymere. Etylenoksyd er den foretrukne monomer på grunn av lav pris og god ytelse. Karbon-atomene som er bundet til oksygenatomet er vicinale og hvert av disse C-atomer kan substitueres med andre C-atomer, samlet . antall C-atomer er fortrinnsvis 2-5. Derfor vil også 1,2-propylenoksyd og 1,2-butylen- oller 2,3-butylenoksyder eller
lignende være egnet, samt deres blandinger. Videre er diepok-syder som metylen-bis(fenoler) av interesse.
Den levende PAS-polymer eller HBDS-kopolymer omsettes med den polare forbindelsen som adderer oksyalkylen- eller tio-alkylengrupper på metalloksy- eller metalltio^endegruppen,
«-CHg-CH^-OM' eller -CHgCHg-SM, under dannelse av AB-blokk-kopolymere med minst 2 og opptil ca. 3.500 slike polare grupper.
Skjematiske strukturer av denne typen kan illustreres slik: eller
hvor R1 betegner en alkylgruppe med minst 3 C-atomer og fortrinnsvis fra. 3-20 C-atomer, a, ar og b er tall på minst 2 og Z er en stoppgruppe. Således består blokk-kopolymere i henhold
til oppfinnelsen i det vesentlige av pelymériserte styren-blokker med midlere molvekt på mellom 1.000 og 300.000 og en polar del, fortrinnsvis pdlyoksyalkylen i en mengde fra 2 til 3.500 enheter, 'fortrinnsvis 10 - 1.000 enheter. Foretrukne molvékter for kopolymere ifølge oppfinnelsen kan ligife mellom 1.000 og 3.000, fortrinnsvis mellom 10.000 og 200.000.
Den polare blokk B kan om Ønsket være kjedeavsluttet enten ved å utfelle den kopolymere i en lavalkylalkohol med f.eks. 1 - 5 C-atomer som metanol, eller omsettes aed en forbindelsé som inneholder en karbonylgruppe, f.eks. en organisk syre, et isocyanat eller et karbonylhalogenid som cyanursyreklorid eller fosgen, og derpå enten utfelle den resulterende omsatte polymer eller, i henhold ansBkernes foretrukne fremgangsmåte for er-statning av opplBsningsmidlet (forskjellig fra en olje) med en olje som omfatter jordolje eller syntetiske oljer, f.eks. estere, etere, polyolefiner etc. Endegruppen eller stoppgruppen Z ovenfor kan være hydroksy, metalloksy av alkalimetaller eller -OR" 01» eller -OCR", hver R" betegner alkyl eller aryl med fra 1 -10 C-atomer, eller en heterocyklisk nitrogengruppe av pyridiner, pyrimidiner eller triaziner. Den foretrukne stoppgruppe fremstilles ved å omsette den polymere med et isocyanat, alkyliso-cyanat eller fortrinnsvis et aromatisk diisocyanat som toluen
diisocyanat (TDI) under dannelse av mono- eller diisocyanater,
n eller uretantypén med gruppen -OCNR"' i enden av blokk-kopolymeren, hvor R<ni>kan være alkyl eller aryl og kan inneholde en 0=C=N-gruppe som fenyl, tolyl, fenylenisocyanat eller tolylenisocyanat. I forbindelse med det foretrukne diisocyanat kan den andre 0=C»N-gruppen enten vmre ureagert eller reagert med andre forbindelseer som fTeks. antioksydasjonsmidler avledet fra fenol-éller arylaminer, eller kan. brukes til å kappe en annen kopoly-merkjede, f.eks. AB-TDI-BÅ. Denne kappe-eyne gir fremragende varme- og oksydasjonsstabilitet til den polymere under bruk. Forbindelsen foreligger vanligvis i form av et anion med alkali-metallet av initiatoren
med kalium som foretrukket eksempel. Andre stoppgrupper består
av hydroksy eller metalloksy avledet av metallet av den aniohiske initiator eller et annet metall substituert ved en utbytnings-reaksjon, eller fra cyaniirhalogenid, dihalogénpyrimidin, halogen-pyridin og lignende eller halogenkarbonyl. Disse flerfunksjonene
kappe-midler kan også kople fler.enn et AB-polymermolekyl som TDI ovenfor.
Styren-polymerisasjonsreaksjonen kan utføres ved en temperatur på mellom -80 og 10G°C, fortrinnsvis er vanlig romtemperatur det ønskede maksimum. Reaksjonen kan avsluttes i
løpet av et tidsrom på 15 minutter til over ca. 4 timer. Den \
andre reaksjonen med alkylenoksyd eller -sulfid kan, utføres
ved en temperatur på fra 0 til 175°C»og reaksjonstiden kan ligge mellom ca. en halv time og 24 timer..Produktene fjernes ved filtrering av den utfelte kopolymer fra oppløsx&ngsmidlet eller helst ved å tilsette en hydrokarbonolje (hvori den ko- V polymere finner anvendelse) eller en opparbeidelsesolje, og fjerne de fuktigere oppløsningsmidler ved destillasjon eller på annen kjent måte. Skulle man ønske en annen kappe-gruppe enn -OM, tilsettes den reaktant som leverer gruppen til reak-sjonsbiandingen før slik opparbeidelse og blandingen oppvarmes. Som ovenfor omtalt vil tilsetning av toluendiisocyanat til reåk-s jonsproduktét gi en TDIK-endegruppe (hvor M er kalium). Et-hvert métallhalogeni 6> eller oksyd-sideprodukt som resulterer av kappe^reaksjonen kan fjernes ved utvasking og/eller filtrering. Innenfor oppfinnelsens ramme kan det vare heldig å beholde metallene.
Produktene ifølge oppfinnelsen er flerfunksjonelie additiver for tilsetning til. industrielle, organiske vasker. På grunn av den høye molekylyekt og snevre molvektfordeling for disse kopolymere gir de stabile oljesammensétninger med høy viskositetsindeks og høy skjsrkraftstabilitet, som^an brukes
som spesialsmøringer, dieseloljer og grease-typer. Således ; vil oljssammensetninger i henhold til oppfinnelsen kunne brukes både under høye og lave temperaturforhold,* idet jo høyere viskositetsindeksen er, jo mer stabil er viskositeten ved eks-treme temperaturer. En av ulempene véå å bruke .visse polymere
som polymetåkrylater som viskositetsindeksforbedrende .stoffer er at under de høye skjarkrefter som forekommer i en motor vil
polymerkjedene kunne.nedbrytes hvilk&t gir lavere viskositeter og eventuelt fører til en nedbrytning av hele additivblandlngen .i oljen. Større vi skositetStap kan gjøre at motoren arbeider lite effektivt. Ms$a har overraskende funnet at blokk-kopolymere V henhold til oppfinnelsen har minimale tap av skjærkraftstabili-,
tet. Det foretrekkes åt molvektfordelingén (Mw/Mn),-hvor Mw er midlere vekt-iaolvekt og Mn er midlere tallmollvekt, er innenfor
området 1:5 og fortrinnsvis ls 2. Blokk-kopofeysefe ifølge oppfinnelsen med slike lave Mtø/Mn-forhold kan fremstilles på enkel måte*
En annen viktig funksjon hos kopolymere^ifSlge oppfinnelsen, Mde med høy og lav molvekt, er deres evne til å dispergere partikler i smBremidlet og hindre dem fra å sette seg av på motorflater. Wki antar at kombinasjonen av oljeopp-løselige og polare deler av makromolekylet gjør at den polymere både holder seg oppløst i oljen og fremdeles kan dispergere partikler i oljen. Disse to egenskaper er nødvendige for å
holde oljen fri for avsetninger som påvirker motorytelsen. Blandede kopolymere med forskjellig molvekt eller med forskjellige A-blokker i det flytende medium kan brukes for en rekke formål.
Mens kopolymer-additiver av denne typen er egnet som rensemidler i organiske røsker, kan de også fortykke basis-væsken.Av særlig interesse er bensin og brenselolje som vil oppnå forbedret renseevne og lavere brenselforbruk.
Additiver ifølge oppfinnelsen kan brukes, sammen med andre additiver som vanligvis benyttes i smøremidler og brennstoffer, f.eks. basiske alkali- eller jordalkalimetallsulfonater og -fenater, -300 alkenylravsyreåmider av etylenpolyaminer,
eksempelvis tetraetylenpentamin, estere av mono- og polyhydroksy-alkoholer, eksempelvis pentaerytritol eller alkali-,, og jord-alkalimetaller, polymetakrylater, svovelholdige olefinér som svovelbehandlet iSobutylen og fosfitter, ditiofosfater, -karba-mater o.l.
De følgende eksempler illustrerer fremgangsmåten for fremstilling av blokk-kopolymere ifølge oppfinnelsen, og bruken av slike kopolymere i organiske, industrielle.væskesammenset-. ninger. De molekylvektmålinger som er oppfart i eksemplene . er foretatt ved gelgjennomtrengningskromatografi i tetrahydrofuran. Eksempel 1 '
I en'2000 ml 4-halskolbe destillerte man 1000 ml tørr tetrahydrofuran (THF) i vakuum ved -78°C. Man gjennomboblet nitrogengass gjennom reaktoren. THF ble behandlet med ca. 30 • dråper 0,5 M oppløsning av kumylkalium,1 THF, • 6*6 ml av denne.
0,5 H kumylkaliumoppløsning ble satt til reaktoren. Til opp-løsningen satte man 80 g (0,5 mol) t-butylstyren gjennom en dråpetrakt ved -78°C. Polymerisasjonen ble foretatt ved denne
temperatur i omtrent 1 time. Til reaksjonsblandingen satte man 20 g (0,45 mol) etylenoksyd som var tørket over;ka^siumhydrid. Reaksjonsblandingen ble omsatt uten temperaturregulering og foregikk ved romtemperatur i 16 timer. Reaksjonen ble avsluttet ved å tilsette til den dannede kopolymer 2 ml metanol? og opp-løsningsmidlet ble erstattet med en opparbaidelsesolje. Produktet er en AB-blokkpolymer med følgende egenskaper;

Eksempel 2
På lignende måte som angitt i eksempel 1 ble t-butyl-styren og etylenoksyd kopolymerisert til en AB-blokkpolymer, bortsett fra at 40 g (0,25 mol) t-butylstyren ble polymerisert
i nærvar av 8,5 ml 0,6 H kumylkaliumoppløsning i THF,. og 10 g (0,227 mol) etylenoksyd ble kopolymerisert sammen med ovennevnte. Blokk-kopolymeren hadde følgende egenskaper: \ = 5.700

Det skal bemerkes at forskjellen i molvekt mellom den kopolymere fra eksempel 1 og fra eksempel 2 skyldes det høyere forhold mellom monomer og initiator i første eksempel. En kopolymer med et lavere forhold viser dannelsen av kortere kjeder og således lavere molvekt. Kopolymere med spesielle ønskede egenskaper kan fremstilles ved å regulere dette forhold og forholdet mellom oleofile og polare monomere.
Eksempel 5
Til en 2000 ml kolbe satte man 300 ml heksan under nitrogen. Inn i. kolben destillerte man under vakuum ved -78°C
150 g (2,5 mol) renset butadien fulgt av en oppløsning av 50 g (0,48 mol) styren i 800 ml benzen. Reaksjonsbeholderen som fremdeles var under nitrogenatmosfære ble tillatt å oppvarmes til romtemperatur. Til reaksjonsbeholderen satte man derpå 100 ral 0,31 M oppløsning av n-butyllitium inneholdende 0,384 g kalium-
t-butoksyd. , Reaksjonskolben ble holdt ved romtemperatur i 16 timer hvorunder polymerisasjonen foregikk. Polymerisasjonen
ble avsluttet ved tilsetning av 0,6 g etylenoksyd og 2 ml is-eddik og den polymere ble frafiltrert.
En oppløsning av 105 g polymer i 370 ml benzen ble hydrogenert ved tilsetning av 15 g katalysator bestående av 10 vektprosent palladium på kull og gjennombobling av hydrogengass
gjennom reaktoren ved 80°C og 28 kg/cm2 i 16 timer. Katalysatoren
ble filtrert fra polymeroppløsningen. Til filtratet satte man
0»704 g kalium-t-butoksyd under nitrogen og oppløsningen ble
oppvarmet ved tilbakeløp, 40 ml benzen ble destillert av. Til oppløsningen satte man 18 g (0,4 mol) etylenoksyd ved å destil-ler;^ etylenoksydet av under vakuum. Man påsatte nitrogenatmos-fare og reaksjonen fortsatte ved 78°C i 5 tinter.: Etter at etylenoksydet var ferdig polymerisert tilsatte man 70 g opparbéid-elsesolje og benzenet ble avdampet under vakuum.

På samme måten som 1 eksempel 1, bortsett fra at mengden etylenoksyd tilsatt bare var 10$ av total mohomermengde istedenfor 20%, ble det ferdige kopolymerprodukt omsatt med 2 ml eddiksyre. idégruppen i den kopolymere var -CH2CH OH, mens endegruppen i polymere fra eksempel 1 og 2 var -CHgCHgOK. (a) Til en § liters kolbe satte man 3000 ml torr cykloheksan og 290 ml styren. En mengde på 487 g renset butadien ble destillert over i kolben ved -78°C. Reaktoren ble oppvarmet
til romtemperatur og 0,20 g kalium-t-butoksyd ble tilsatt og opp-løst samtidig som 11,5 ml 1,31-H sek-butyllitium ble tilsatt, hvorpå reaksjonen forløp ca. 4 timer ved 38°C og ca. 16 timer
ved romtemperatur. Polymerisasjonen ble avsluttet ..ved tilsetning av en liten mengde gassformig etylenoksyd.
Den dannede polymeroppløsning ble fortynnet med ytterligere 2000 ml cykloheksan og hydrogenert ved kg/cm2 trykk og 40°C i 24 timer med nikkel-acetoacetohat/trietylaluminium-katalysator i et forhold på 2:1 Al/Ni. Etter avsluttet hydrogener-
ing tilsatte man en mengde, på 50 ml konsentrert HC1 i 25 ml metanol til cykloheksanoppløsningen og omrorte i 2 timer. Den polymere ble opparbeidet ved utfelling i metanol ,o:g, tørket. (b) En mengde på 99 g av den tørkede*hydrogenérte polymer ble oppløst i 1100 ml benzen i en 2 liters reaktor.
Ca. 700 ml benzen ble avdestillert og 0,32 § kalsiumt-butoksyd ble tilsatt og oppløst. Ytterligere 50 ml benzen ble avdestillert etter oppvarming ved 70°C i 1 time» 24,7 ml renset etylenoksyd ble tilsatt og reaksjonen gikk videre, i 5 timer ved til-bakeløpstemperatur. Reaktoren ble avkjølt til-38°C og reaksjonen fortsatt i ytterligere 16 timer. Derpå tilsatte man 3* 0 ml toluendiisocyanat. Den resulterende polymer hadde følgende egenskaper: M^ 65.000

Eksempel 10
Til en 12 liters kolbe satte man 7200 ml cykloheksan, 696 ml styren og 1575 ml butadien. En mengde på 14,4 ml tetrahydrofuran (THF) ble tilsatt og polymerisasjonen startet med 31,3 ml 1,17 N sek-butyllitium og reaksjonen,ble fortsatt i 2 timer ved 50°C. Polymerisasjonen ble avsluttet ved å tilsette 37 ml 10 vektprosentig etylenoksyd i cyHoheksanoppløsning.
En mengde på 2,2 ml eddiksyre ble derpå tilsatt.
Den dannede polymeroppløsning ble fortynnet med mere cykloheksan og hydrogenert med nikkel på kisélgur. ved en temperatur på 155°C og et trykk på 35 kg/cm<2>, i 10 timer,. Katalysatoren ble frafiltrert etter avsluttet hydrogenering. Pcilymeroppløsningen ble fylt på en 12 1 beholder og
4 1 cykloheksan avjsstillert og erstattet med 5 1 benzen* Én mengde på 14 ml 17,8 vektprosentig oppløsning av kalium-t-amyloksyd i cykloheksan ble tilsatt og 1 liter oppløsningsmiddel avdestillert. Man tilsatte etylenoksyd (208 ml) og,reaksjonen
ofrtsatte i 10 timer ved tilbakeløpstemperatur. Reaksjonen ble avsluttet med 3,0 ml toluendiisocyanat oppløst i 20 ml benzen. Den dannede polymer hadde følgende egenskaper: Mjj « 65.030

Produktene i henhold til oppfinnelsen har viskositetsindeksforbedrende egenskaper samtidig med fremragende skjærkraft-stabil£tét og overraskende renseevne bed både benkeprøvér og motorforsøk. De forsøk som brukes for å vise disse egenskaper
er skjærkraft-stabilitetsprøven og måling av fortykkingsevnen
samtkullf jernin<g>sforsøk og avlelringsprøver. Grunnlagsvæskene. er smøreoljer, dieseloljer og bensin.
For måling av skjærkraft-stabiliteten hos oljesammen-setninger ifølge oppfinnelsen utsettes disse for en rekke sk jær-krefter og man måler viskositeten etter hver skjærkraffperiode. En skjsrkraftstabil sammensetning vil ha lite eller intet yisko-sitetstap. Skjærkraft-stabilitetsprøven er som følger: Ca. 250
ml forsøksoljé med k^ent viskositet passerer gjennom en vanlig Meselmotor-innsprøytningsdyse 10 ganger, og man måler slutt-yiskositet en...Innsprøytingsdysen inneholder 7 åpninger med dia-meter 0,015 mSl. Forsøket kjøres ved romtemperatur og et trykk på ca. 2800 - 3500 kg/cm<2>.
Resultatene av disse forsøk på en solvent-raffinert olje inneholdende blokk-polymere ifølge oppfinnelsen er oppsatt 1 tabellen nedenfor. I disse tabeller er de polymere betegnet
med følgende forkortelser: TBS-EO lik 5-butylstyren/etylenoksyd-kopolymer, HBDS-EO er lik hydrogenert butadien-styren/etylenoksyd- _ kopolymer, OK er lik oksykalium-endegruppe, TDIK er lik toluendiisocyanat-kalium-endegruppe, OH er lik hydroksy-endegruppe.
Andre forkortelser er: VI er lik viskositetsindeks, M17 er lik molvekt, SSI er lik skjærkraft-stabilitetsindeks (se tidsskrift fra Rohm and Haas Company "Acryloid 700 Series", september 1970) somberegnes ved ^Tv-^vf/(v1vQ17 x 100, hvor betegner startviskositeten for sammensetningen, y£er viskositeten etter forsøket, vQ er viskositeten for oljesammensetningen uten vis-kositetsforbedrende tilsetning, og jo lavere tall jo mer effektiv tilsetning, TP er lik fortykkingsevne (thickening power) eller vi sko sitetsøkning ved 99°C pr. vektprosent additiv. Produk-tøae fra eksempel 9(a), den hydrogenerte butadien-styren-kbpolymer (HBDS) og 9{b), blokk-kopolymeren avsluttet 1 TDIK (HBDS-EO-TDIK), ble begget prøvet med hensyn på viskosltets-forendringer som skyldes temperaturen. To prøver av oljesammen-setning av samme typen som i tabell II, hver inneholdende 3 vektprosent 9(a)-kopoiymer og- 9(b)-kopolymer ble oppvarmet og viskositeten målt ved forskjellige temperaturer. Resultatene er som følgers
Således yter kopolymere ifølge op<p>finnelsen større fortykkingsevne enn kopolyaerforløperen av butadien-styren under normale driftsforhold som forekommer i motorer, hvilket er ønskelig for å oppnå bedre motorytelse og smørevirkning. Ved de lave temperaturer eller "kaldstart^-temperaturer viser det seg overraskende at fortykkingen som forårsakes av kopolymere ifølgeOppfinnelsen i virkeligheten synker» hvilket gir lettere opp-starting mens butadien-styren-kopoiymere gir øket fortykking og vanskeligere start.
Et forsøk som angir evnen til opptak og dispergering av partikler i oljen er kullf jerningsprøven:
En sylindrisk celle av rustfritt stål anbringes i
et bad med konstant temperatur lik 100°C. Inne i cellen finnes en AOO mesh nikkelduk hvor nikkelpulver er påfylt som et porøst 10 ml sjikt av en dispersjon inneholdende 250 ppm sot-, svart i ublandet olje i en mengde på 1 ml/min. fulgt av 5 ml

sjiktet, i henhold til Beer-Lambert, hvilket angir mengden sot-svart som er fjernet fra sjiktet. De følgende resultater ble opp-nådd med blokk-kopolymere ifølge oppfinnelsen, som rensemiddel-di spergeringsmi ddel:

en Caterpillar-motor som smøremiddeltilsetning. Tilsetningen omfattet 9,75 vektprosent av andre additiver inkl. et 1 det vesentlige askefrltt dispergeringsmiddel, et everbasisk kalsium-fenat, ét sinkdlalkylfosforditioat og amin- og fenol-antioksydasjonsmidler. I smøremiddelsammensetningen fantes1,5 vektprosent av en blanding av kopolymere av t-butylstyren og etylenoksyd kappet med TDIK. Begge kopolymere ble fremstilt som beskrevet i eksempel 1 og 5. Blandingen ble fremstilt ved å biande 554 g kopolymer med følgende egenskaper: \ 43.000

Den anvendte forsøksmotor var en énsylindret, fire-taktsmotor som ble kjørt under følgende forhold: Omdreiningshastighet omdr./min, 1.000
Bremsebelastning HK = 19,8
Oljetemperatur °C = 65
Kjølekappens temperatur °C 65
Brennstoff «. dieselolje med 1% svovel Motoren ble kjørt i 240 timer. Etter forsøket ble^stempelet
og sylinderen undersøkt og bedømt som følger (på basis fåv en skala fra 0 til 100): stempelbedømmelse, 100 betegner perfekt ren* lakkbelegg, 0 betegner ingen lakkavsetning, øvre stempel-ring-rille, 0 betegner ren* Resultatene av prøvene med oven-stående oljesammensething er:
Kopolymere ifølge oppfinnelsen har like effektive renseegenskaper for bensiner og andre brennstoffer. Tre produkter ble underkastet forsøk sammen med en kjent type kom-pleksdannet polyamin-detergens ved en forgasser-renseprøve. . En bensinsammensetning inneholdende rensemidlet. brukes som brennstoff til en standard 302 CID Ford V/8-motor med modifi-sert inntakssystem.
I det vesentlige er det vanlige luftinntaket erstattet med en Y-manifold forsynt med termoelementer og to aluminium-ayleiringsrør. På hver gren av Y-manif olden er. det påsatt en enkel-forgasser forsynt med aluminiumshylse i nærheten, av spjeldet i forgasseren. Rørene og hylsene forveies. Luftinntaket er avdelt for å tilføre luft til hver Y-forgrening. Inn-
taksluften forvarmes til 65°C.
Brennstoffsystemet består av 2 60-liters tanker, en for hver forgasser. Basis-bensinen kjøres gjennom den ene forgasseren, bensinen med forsøksadditivene kjøres.gjennom den andre forgasseren. I de følgende forsøk består de behandlede sammensetninger av basis-bensln inneholdende.

1000 1) kopolymer fremstilt i henhold til eksempel 1, bortsett fra at 400 g t-butylstyren ble brukt for fremstilling av A-polymerén og 100 g etylenoksyd (20# EO) ble brukt for fremstilling av B-porsjonen i den kopolymere. Mengden THF var 3000 ml og mengden kumyl-kaliumoppløsning var 120 ml i en 0 ,415 N opp-løsning* Den fremstilte kopolymere hadde følgende egenskaper,

1 og eksempel 5, den resulterende kopolymer hadde

Motorforsøkét ble gjennomført slik: Motoren ble startet opp og varmet opp og innstilt på"hastighet 700<£>50 omdr./min. Brennstofftilføreselen ble satt på 1,3 kg/time på individuelle strømningsmålere. Et varmeappa-rat påsatt hvert avlelringsrør i Y-forgreningene innstilles på 177°C og luftyarmeren innstilles på levering av forvarmet luft med 65°C. Kjølevann ut settes på 82°C, oljetemperatur ut på 77°C» Motoren settes deretter på 2500 50 omdr./min., og så tilbake til 700 - 50. Disse hastigheter forandres alternerende slik:
8,5 minutter ved 700 - 50 omdr-/min.
0,5 minutter ved 2500 t 50 omdr./min.
U ialt 12 timer, motoren slås av etter den åttiende periode» Avleiringsrørene og forgass^icfylsene tas ut, oppvarmes i en ovn ved 110°C i minst 15 minutter og veies.. Utgangsvekten trekkes fra den nye vekten og forskjellen oppføres som avleiring er. Hylsene vaskes i normalheptan, oppvarmes på nytt og tørkes og veies. Resultatene av avleiringene på hylsene og rørene er: Ror- avleiringer. m/ g
Således vil man se at kopolymere ifølge oppfinnelsen bevirker bensin-renseevne (d$ergency) helt opp til 92% reduksjon
. av forgasseravsetninfpie, Idke godt resultat som markedsførte brennstoff-rensemidler. Eksempel II
I dette eksempel polymeriseres t-butylstyren som i eksempel 1* bortsett fra at 6 ml 1,0 M dikalium^alfa-metyi-styren-tetrameropplø^sning i THF er initiator en. Etter 1 time tilsettes 20 g (0,90 mol) etylenoksyd til reaksjonsblandingen og reaksjonen, settes igang. Ca. 98 g. polymérprodukt utfelles i metanol og frafiltreres. Dette produktet er en blokk-kopølymer av BAB-typen.
Claims (15)
- . 1. Kopolymere bestående av en blokk-kopolymer som i molekylstrukturen inneholder minst to segmenter, A og B, karakterisert ved at segment A er en polymer isertalkylstyren med minst én alkylgruppe bundet til den aromatiske kjerne av minst tre C-atomer, eller en hydrogenert tilfeldig-polymerisert dien-fst <y> ren-kopolymer, og segment B er et polymer!-sert alkylenoksyd eller alkylensulfid.
- 2. Kopolymer som angitt i krav 1, k a r a k t e r i-s é r t ved at segment B utgjør minst 1%, fortrinnsvis 1 - 505^ på vektbasis av den totale kopolymer.
- 3. Kopolymer som angitt i krav 1, karakterisert ved at segment A er polymerisert t-butylstyren.
- 4. Kopolymer som angitt i krav 1, karakterisert ved at segment A er en hydrogenert tilf eldig-polymerisert butadien-styren-kopolymer.
- 5» Kopolymer som angitt i krav 4, k a rakt e r 1-s e r t v e d. at den tilfeldig-polymeriserte butadien-styren-kopolymer er fremstilt i nærvær av et tilfeldiggrupperende reagens, fortrinnsvis en eter eller alkal1metall salt av en alkohol med fra 1-20 C-atomer eller en fenol.
- 6. Kopolymer som angitt 1 et eller flere av kravene 1 5. karakterisert ved at segment B er polymerisert etylenoksyd.
- 7* Kopolymer som angitt i et eller flere av kravene 1 - .6, k a r a k t. e r 1 s ert ved at segment B inneholder en éndegruppe -CH2~CH2"2> hvor 2 betegner hydroksy, -OM hvor M betegner et alkalimetall, -OR" og $ hvor R <n> tegner alkyl med 2 0-CR <»> fra 1 10 C-atomer, -OC-KR" f, hvor R <tt»> betegner fenyl, tolyl, fenylen, isocyanat, tolylenisocyanat. eller der ioniske former med;M, eller en heterocyklisk gruppe, og hvor Z fortrinnsvis er avledet av tolylendii socyanat 1 iene-binding med et metall, eller et pyri din, diazin eller triazin.
- 8. Kopolymer som angitt i et eller flere av kravene 1 7, karakterisert ved at molvekten for den kopolymere er mellom 1.000 og 300.000.
- 9. Sammensetning omfattende en baslsk-væske, resp. et smøremiddel eller et brennstoff inneholdende en mindre mengde additiv for disse, karakterisert ved at addi-tivet er en kopolymer i henhold til et eller flere av kravene 1-8. ■
- 10. Fremgangsmåte fer fremstilling av en blokk^kopolymer ved sekvens-polymerisering, karakterisert ved at ét alkylstyren.med en alkylgruppe på minst 3 C-atomer på . den aromatiske kjerne eller en blanding av et dien og styren først polymer!seres under anioniske betingelser og et alkylenoksyd eller alkylensulfid derpå blokkpolymeriseres på.
- 11. Fremgangsmåte som angitt i krav 10, karakterisert ved at nevnte alkylstyren er t-butyl-styren.
- 12* Fremgangsmåte som angitt i krav 10 eller 11, karakterisert ved at etylenoksydgrupper blokkpolymeriseres på den anionisk fremstilte polymer.
- 13. - Fremgangsmåte som angitt i krav 10 eller 12, karakterisert ved at anion-polymerlsasjonen utføres med en blanding av et dien, fortrinnsvis butadien * bg styren, og at den polymere hydrogeneres enten før blokkpolymerisas jons-trinnet eller etter.
- 14. Fremgangsmåte som angitt i krav 13, karakterisert ved at anion-polymerisasjonen avsluttes ved sur-gjøring av reaksjonsblandingen, eventuelt med tilsetning av en del av den andre monomere.
- 15. Fremgangsmåte som angitt 1 et eller flere av kravene 10 - 14, karakterisert ved at blokk-kopolymeren kjede-avsluttes méd et kappe-middel valgt blant lavere alkanoler (C^ - C^ ), en karboksylsyre, et isocyanat eller et karbonylhalogenid, fortrinnsvis tolylendiisocyanat.
