Description
The invention relates to a non-lethal projectile of the type specified in the introduction to patent claim 1.
From German patent document no. 2,125,417, such a projectile is known, in which a piston is inserted in a cartridge case in front of the propellant charge, which, when fired, drives out a bag filled with shot or a net, which is loaded with shot at its circumference, and which forms the actual projectile. In front of the projectile, a small sealing disc is inserted in the casing. The piston, which after firing reaches out of the barrel together with the projectile, and the sealing disk has, due to their small weight almost no kinetic energy and therefore detaches itself from the projectile and remains back behind it. The projectile sheath or net folds into a flattened shape, as there due to the weapon's rifling gives the projectile a spin. Because of. this considerable surface area, the projectile cannot penetrate the target or pass through it, but the kinetic energy is distributed in the same way as a blow on a large surface.
For specific tasks, this known projectile can fulfill the requirements placed on it. However, it is a significant disadvantage that the range is only a few metres, and that the target accuracy remains unsatisfactory as the projectile is aerodynamically very unfavorable.
The present invention aims to provide a non-lethal projectile of the aforementioned kind, where the aforementioned disadvantages are avoided, and this is achieved by the projectile being designed as stated in the characterizing part of patent claim 1.
With this design, one achieves that the projectile, until it hits a target, essentially behaves like a normal projectile for handguns, so that no special weapon is required to fire the projectile, just as no particularly great training is required of the shooters either . Only when the projectile hits a target is it deformed, so that the desired large impact surface is obtained with energy release to the body under a relatively small surface pressure. The projectile casing can consist of soft plastic material, possibly soft polyethylene, and likewise have predetermined breaking points, preferably longitudinal grooves, so that, when it hits a target, it is not only twisted, but also spreads out in a fan shape. For transferring acceleration forces to the heavy metal mass, there is preferably a projectile base of hard material, e.g. of a hard plastic material. When a hard modification of the projectile casing material is used for the base, the casing and base can be economically connected to each other by means of friction welding. The projectile base can have an annular surface for gas sealing. The filling mass can consist of lead dust, lead shot or heavy metal dust, to which a plastic binder or a rubber compound has been added. The wall thickness of the projectile casing must be adapted so that it can withstand the centrifugal forces, which occur due to the projectile's turning movement, and that no sprain occurs during firing.
1 viser en foretrukket utforelsesform for prosjektilet halv-skjematisk og i lengdesnitt, og The invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, where fig. 1 shows a preferred embodiment of the projectile semi-schematically and in longitudinal section, and
fig. 2 samme i snitt etter linjen II-II i fig. 1.fig. 2 same in section along the line II-II in fig. 1.
The projectile consists of a projectile casing 1 of soft plastic material, into which is inserted a projectile base 2 of harder plastic. Both parts can be glued to each other or also be connected to each other by means of friction welding. The cavity between the inner surface of the projectile casing 1 and the base 2 is filled with a rubber compound 3 reinforced with heavy metal. The base 2 has an annular surface 4. On the circumference are placed longitudinal grooves 5* which form fracture points. The cartridge case with propellant charge and ignition charge is not shown.
