Description
This invention relates to a trawler and a method of trawling. More specifically, the invention relates to hauling in a trawl bag so that the catch comes on board the trawler in a gentle way for both the trawl bag and the catch.
The trawl consists of a funnel-shaped trawl net which ends in a trawl bag (bag) which collects the fish. The trawl system is towed until indicators attached to the trawl bag indicate that a desired amount of fish has entered the trawl bag. The trawl system is then taken in by hauling in the tow cable until the trawl doors are in place in their trawl jacks which are placed on either side of the vessel's stern. The trawl doors are disconnected and the trawl net is hauled in after the sweep line with the help of its own winches. The trawl net is hauled in on the deck, or on a drum, until the trawl bag has come all the way up
Dette er den helt dominerende form for trålfiske. in the trawl slip which is arranged in the stern of the vessel to be able to more easily drag the heavy trawl bag out of the sea and onto the deck. To get the trawl bag up the slip and onto the deck, a strong rope made of synthetic material, or a cable, is attached to the bag and it is then hauled onto the deck where it is opened and emptied. This is the most dominant form of trawl fishing.
At the stern end and the top of the trawl slip, the trawl bag containing the fish catch must pass respectively an edge at the stern and an edge towards the trawl deck, where the trawl bag at both places is broken continuously over the edge when it is pulled in. At the same time, the vessel's pounding will cause the stern to move up and down and thus cause a cyclic pressure increase and pressure reduction towards the underside of the trawl bag. These tensile and bending forces which act on the trawl bag, as well as the pressure forces induced by the fish's own weight against the underlying part of the catch, especially in the case of large hauls, e.g. over 40 tonnes, could result in the underlying part of the fish catch being squeezed together so that the entrails come out, and the cells in the fish meat and blood vessels can also be crushed so that the blood comes out in the meat. This reduces the quality and value of part of the catch and can lead to a downgrading of part of the fish to a lower value, as well as entailing a lot of sorting work. At the same time, the crushing and crushing of fish and especially of entrails means that the trawl bag and the trawl deck must be thoroughly cleaned after each haul.
There are some vessel arrangements where this problem is reduced. A solution for large catches in the trawl bag is to pull the trawl bag close to the vessel so that the fish catch can be pumped on board using a fish pump. This means that the vessel is stationary until the trawl sack is emptied, and thus the vessel cannot go into the sea with any new trawl until the trawl sack on the ship's side is emptied.
A solution to the problem is presented by Norwegian patent NO 94493 from 1959 granted to engineer Nils Johannes Liaaen from Ålesund, where a frame or an extension is arranged that extends around the stern end of the trawl slip, so that the frame forms an opening above the waterline so that a trawl bag or a purse seine can be kept sufficiently spread out so that a hoof from a crane can be lowered into the net and empty the trawl bag's contents of fish into the trawler's hold. This solution entails rather slow emptying of the trawl bag and also stationary vessels during emptying.
Norwegian patent 153 212 granted in 1986 to G.R. Deldifford, based on international patent application PCT/AU80/00068, describes a trawl vessel where a small trawl is played out in front of the vessel, where the plays are made up of rods projecting obliquely forward. The stern of the trawl net constitutes a funnel that leads into a longitudinal continuous tunnel through the vessel where water and fish pass, but where the fish is driven up from the tunnel to the deck by means of a conveyor belt elevator which lets the water through horizontally but which does not let the fish through but which stops the fish above a certain size and transports it up to the deck.
German patent DE 89769 to William Adam, Scotland, granted by the Imperial Patent Office in 1896, also describes a trawler using a leading trawl net, where the trawl net leads into the bow of the trawler running aft. The trawl net is towed by two separate towing vessels (paddle steamers) which drive several hundred meters in front of the trawler and each pull their own spread trawl lines. The fish floats freely into a chamber with an upward-sloping screen plate that lets the water down and through the screen plate and out of the vessel, and the fish is forced up the screen plate until it hits a conveyor belt elevator that lifts the fish out of the water and up to the deck. Such a solution as presented in DE 89769 will probably work best in good weather, but hardly under the most common sea conditions at sea, e.g. outside. Newfoundland, in the North Atlantic, in the Norwegian Sea or in the Barents Sea.
German patent document DE 839164, "Obemahmevorrichtung fur Fischnetze fur Fischfabrik-Mutterschiffe", describes a fishing vessel with a stern divided by a deep, wide vertical longitudinal slot between the two stern decks. A lifting plate is mounted on hydraulic jacks so that the catch can be pulled in from the stern onto the lowered lifting plate in the sea between the stern decks. The lift plate can then be raised to deck level for further handling of the catch onto the deck.
British patent GB 1 555 437 "A fishing vessel especially suitable for fishing in icebound waters" issued describes a trawler with a narrow, elongated recess from the stern and which extends in the direction a desired distance forward along the center axis of the vessel, so that it actually forms two parallel protruding narrow stern ends of the vessel. At the forward end of the storage, i.e. between the two stern ends, there is a trawl slip for boarding trawl nets and trawl bags. The trawl slip can be fixed or rotatable and hinged at the top edge.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures, which are only intended as an illustration of the invention and which must not be understood as limiting the invention, which must only be limited by the attached patent claims. Fig. 1 outlines a vessel according to the invention with a vertical partial section, partial elevation of the stern part of the vessel, and shows the outline of a lock chamber in the stern part of the trawler and a corresponding lock opening in the transom of the trawler. Fig. 2 shows a side view and a longship's vertical section through the center plane of the vessel, the longitudinal section of the lock room together with a view of a divided trawl slip and a trawl deck and shelter deck with equipment such as trawl winches and trawl drums. Fig. 3 illustrates a longship's vertical section and side view of the stern end of a trawl vessel according to the invention with the trawl comprising a trawl sack, a trawl sack union and a trawl groove and trawl doors in operational position. The trawl and the trawl doors are shown somewhat twisted on their side, and the trawl is shown reduced in size. Fig. 4 illustrates in the same scale a vertical section and side view of the stern of the vessel according to a preferred embodiment of the invention where the trawl net is winched in over the trawl slip to a trawl drum on the trawl deck, just before the trawl sack with a trawl sack union can be disconnected from the trawl net and connected to an inlet, before the haul is lowered and the trawl bag and the trawl bag extension attached to the tail can be winched in through the lock opening to the lock chamber. Fig. 5 is the same vertical section as Fig. 4 of the stern, and shows how, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the haul is dropped from the deck and down through a slot to the lock opening, after which the extension of the trawl bag and the trawl bag itself can be winched in through the lock opening. Fig. 6 is the same vertical section as Fig. 5, and shows the trawl bag as it has been drawn completely into the lock chamber which is now closed by a door in the lock opening, before the trawl bag according to a preferred embodiment of the invention is split, possibly that the trawl bag extension is disconnected from the trawl bag and the forward part of the trawl bag or the trawl bag extension is pulled 'off' the catch, and where the trawl bag is prepared to be pulled up through an aft trunk channel to a winch on deck. Fig. 7 is in the same vertical section of the vessel as above, and illustrates that the trawl bag is divided and opened in a front part or trawl bag union shown here which is pulled up through the forward trunk, and via the opposite aft end which is pulled up through the aft trunk. The fish is pumped out of the lock chamber by means of a fish pump to, for example, a warehouse or processing on board the vessel Fig. 8 illustrates a vertical section through the center plane at the stern of a possible design of the vessel, where a roof in the lock chamber is located above the vessel's design waterline. Fig. 9 illustrates a vertical section through the center plane at the stern of a preferred embodiment of the vessel, where a roof in the lock chamber is located mainly below the vessel's construction waterline to avoid the formation of a free surface of the water inside the lock chamber. Fig. 10 shows a horizontal section and partial view of the stern of the vessel seen from above, with an outline of the lock chamber opening at a front end into a front trunk, and where the gap between the transom and the aft trunk is clearly shown, and where the lock door is shown in the closed position in the lock opening. In a preferred embodiment, the trawl slip is shown divided into a starboard and a port trawl slip part, so that the aft trunk can lead all the way up to a projection at height level with the trawl deck, among other things to avoid the crew having to work with the tail down along the steep the trawl slip.

A more detailed description of a vessel according to the invention will be given below, with reference to the attached figures. Fig. 1 outlines a vessel according to the invention with a vertical partial section, partial elevation of the stern part of the vessel. The vessel is equipped with line winches (62) and trawl drums (6), preferably on a shelter deck (24) (see Fig. 2) for shooting and hauling in a trawl net (5). Figure 3 shows the vessel with a trawl net in the sea, with associated lines (51,61) and trawl doors (60), and with a trawl bag (3) mounted on the trawl net (5) and arranged to hold the catch. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a trawl bag union (35) is mounted between the trawl net (5) and the trawl bag (3) so that the trawl bag extension takes the load over the drum (6) when hauling in the catch. According to the invention, the vessel is equipped with at least one lock chamber (1) whose water volume is mainly below the vessel's waterline, for hauling in and temporarily storing the trawl bag (3) with the catch; and at least one lock opening (2) between the lock chamber (1) and the sea, where the lock opening (2) is also located mainly below the vessel's waterline.
Fig. 2 shows a tall ship's vertical section through the center plane and side view of the vessel, and shows the longitudinal section of the lock chamber together with a trawl slip (20) and a trawl deck (10) with equipment such as line winches and trawl drums. A shelter deck (24) is also dotted in where some of the winches and drums can be placed. According to a preferred embodiment, the lock opening (2) is arranged in the stern (21) of the vessel. It is further preferred that the lock opening (2) is arranged close to the center line of the vessel in the stern (21) as illustrated in the attached drawings. In this way, the vessel can maintain a slim aft part that lets the sea go well when underway. It is also conceivable to have alternative vessel designs with one or two lock openings (2) arranged in the vessel's starboard, respectively port side (22) in the stern (21), or both parts.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the vessel is equipped with a lock door (9) which can close and open the lock opening (2). The lock door protects the lock chamber against the intrusion of waves from the stern. Waves from the stern could push water up through openings (explained later) between the lock chamber and the trawl deck. It is also an advantage to be able to close the sluice opening to protect the catch from the impact of waves when the catch has been drawn into the sluice chamber.
In a preferred embodiment, the vessel is equipped with a lock roof (18) which covers mainly the entire lock chamber (1), see Figures 1 - 9. The lock roof (18) makes the lock chamber different from just being an unprotected trawl dock. The lock roof also ensures that you can have a continuous trawl deck (10) over the lock chamber. The lock roof (18) and the continuous trawl deck (10) ensure that the aft part of the vessel is not divided or split unnecessarily, so that the strength of the deck part of the aft part is retained by the fact that there is a continuous metal skin around the vessel's cross-section for essentially the entire length of the vessel, also in the aft part. In a further preferred embodiment of the invention, a part of the lock roof (18) is arranged to lie below the vessel's waterline, see fig. 9 (and also fig. 1-7) so that no free surface of significant size is formed on the water in the lock chamber (1), with the result that waves in the lock chamber (1) are dampened. When you avoid a free surface in most of the lock chamber, you avoid waves that would otherwise form in a body of water inside the vessel, waves that can be unpredictable. Such waves with a free surface would under given influences from surface waves on the sea and the vessel's movements such as rolling, pounding, chasing and yawing could amplify and worsen these movements. Tanks are often equipped with longitudinal and transverse swash bulkheads, which is irrelevant for the lock chamber because it must enclose a trawl bag with catch.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the vessel is equipped with an inlet (8) designed to be attached to a front or aft end (31,32) of the trawl bag (3), and designed to haul the trawl bag into the lock chamber (1). This inlet (8) is shown for the first time in figure 4. A channel called a front trunk (16), see figure 2, leads up from the front end of the lock chamber (1) and is arranged so that the whole or front part of the trawl bag (3 ,31) in a mostly emptied state can be pulled up through the front trunk (16), preferably to a trawl deck (10). In the most preferred embodiment of the invention, the inlet (8) is arranged to extend from a root drum (7) arranged on the trawl deck (10), preferably through the front trunk (16) and through the lock chamber (1). A further preferred embodiment of the vessel according to the invention is equipped with a corresponding aft trunk (12) which leads up from near an aft end of the lock chamber (1). The aft trunk (12) is designed so that the whole or aft part of the trawl sack (3,32) in an empty (or almost empty) state can be pulled up through the aft trunk (12), preferably with the help of an aft grooved drum ( 71) arranged on the shelter deck (24) where the aft part of the trawl bag is rolled in. This preferred embodiment of the vessel and the method according to the invention is outlined in figures 6 and 7.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the inlet (8) is stretched from a groove drum (7) at the front trunk (16), and through the lock chamber (1) and up again through the aft trunk (16). There is an inlet gap (13) arranged between the outer side of the vessel, preferably the stern (21), and the aft trunk (12), where the inlet gap extends down to and opens into the lock opening (2), so that the inlet (8), after that is stretched aft from the seine drum and attached to the front end of the trawl sack (3) or the trawl sack extension (35), can be dropped through the inlet slot so that the inlet lies through the lock opening. In this way, the trawl bag can be drawn in through the lock opening to the lock chamber. In Figure 5, it is illustrated that the trawl bag (3) with the trawl bag extension (35), being stretched by the inlet (8) and achieving an approximately pointed "pencil shape" which can facilitate the inlet through the lock opening (2) to the lock chamber (1).
In an alternative possible embodiment, the vessel is provided with a neck slit (131) arranged throughout the roof (18) and thus large parts of the length of the trawl deck between the outside of the vessel, preferably the stern (21), and all the way to the front trunk (16). This could, however, require some kind of reinforcement of the vessel's circumference in the cross-section, which would be broken by such a deep throat slit through the trawl deck, but is possible.
According to a preferred embodiment, it is not desirable to have the entire sluice chamber with its full cross-section positioned completely at the stern. The solution to this is to arrange a lock channel (4) between the lock opening (2) and the lock chamber (1), where the lock channel (4) has a slightly smaller cross-section than the cross-section of the lock chamber (1), as shown in figures 2 to 9, which gives the stern of the vessel has a fairly slim design. In the preferred embodiment, a lock chamber bottom (19) is arranged deeper than the lock opening (2).
With the present invention, it is preferred to draw in the trawl net (5) via the trawl slip (20) arranged near the lock opening (2). The trawl slip (20) is thus designed for hauling in the trawl net (5) above the deck. The trawl net is designed to be separated from the trawl bag (3), in the preferred version with the trawl bag extension (35), which is hauled in through the lock opening (2). It is conceivable that, as an alternative, the trawl net could be hauled in via the lock chamber, but this would not be preferable.
A preferred embodiment of the invention has varying area of the lock chamber (1) cross-section with varying distance from the stern end, in order to dampen waves in the lock chamber. This is achieved both by the lock chamber bottom (19) extending deeper from the lock canopies (4) and forwards, then rising again at the front end up towards the front trunk (16) which can again slope steeply upwards in the forward direction. In addition, the lock chamber roof (18) extends down at the front part of the sluice channel (4) and then runs below the water surface, and rises in the front part of the lock chamber and runs smoothly over the roof part of the front trunk (16).
The sluice opening (2) and the sluice channel (4) are in a preferred embodiment of the invention enclosed by the vessel's stern as a hydrodynamically designed submerged part (41) of the vessel's hull so that the stern should be able to release the sea in a good way when normally walking through the sea. Thus, a submerged aft part (41) of the vessel's bottom (22) and stern (21) is arranged, where the submerged aft part (41) encloses the lock opening (2), see figure 1. This submerged aft part also encloses the siuse channel (4) in the preferred embodiment of the invention.
It may be necessary to deal with the partition or the zip (33) which can split the middle part of the trawl sack if it cannot be opened or steered with the help of a release line, so-called "saviors" through the front or aft trunk. An inspection trunk (14) runs through the lock roof (18) mainly over the middle part of the lock chamber (1), for inspection and handling of the trawl sack (3), possibly manual splitting of the trawl sack (3) if the zip (33) on the middle of the trawl sack (3) does not can be triggered via the trigger line.
Trålslippen er i en foretrukket utførelse vist delt i en styrbord (20) og en babord trålslipp-del (20), for at den aktre trunk (12) kan føre helt opp til et Fig. 10 shows, in horizontal section and partial view of the stern end of the vessel seen from above, with an outline of the lock chamber (1) which opens at the front end into the front trunk (16), and where the continuous inlet gap (13) between the transom ( 21) and the aft trunk (12) down to the lock opening (2) are clearly shown. The lock door (9) is shown in the closed position in the lock opening (2). The sluice door (9) can be of different designs, for example as a hinged, pivoting hatch, a raising/lowering hatch, or as a "blender" comprising many gate parts (92, not shown) which together cover the sluice opening (2). The gate parts can be arranged to cooperate so that the opening degree of the lock door follows the cross-section of the part of the trawl bag extension and the trawl bag which is about to pass through the lock gate. In a preferred embodiment, the trawl slip is shown divided into a starboard (20) and a port trawl slip part (20), so that the aft trunk (12) can lead all the way up to a
The projection (11) is flush with the trawl deck (10) and extends aft between the trawl slips (20), and is desirable, among other things, to avoid the crew having to work with the tail down along the trawl slip.
Fig. 7 viser at trålsekken er åpnet langs delingen, den såkalte "zippen" (33) In the following, a method for trawling of marine bioresources will be described, with a vessel comprising trawl winches (62) for handling trawl lines (61) and trawl drums (6) for shooting and hauling in a trawl net (5) with attached trawl bag (3) for collecting the catch. Figure 3 also shows associated liners (51,61) and trawl doors (60). The novelty of the invention is characterized by the following actions: After hauling in the trawl net has been carried out, hiding in the ordinary way, hauling in of the trawl bag (3) containing the catch is carried out, from the sea, through a lock opening (2) mainly below the vessel's waterline, to a lock chamber (1) whose water volume is mainly below the vessel's waterline. The trawl net (5) is brought in over a trawl slip (20) arranged near the lock opening (2), and the trawl net is separated from the trawl bag (3) which is brought in separately through the lock opening (2). Fig. 4 illustrates, as mentioned, a vertical section of the vessel according to a preferred embodiment of the invention where the trawl net is winched in over the trawl slip to a trawl drum on the trawl deck. The trawl bag or the trawl bag extension is disconnected from the trawl net and connected to a haul, before the haul is lowered and the trawl bag is ready to be winched in through the lock opening to the lock chamber. By using the trawl bag extension (35) you achieve that the trawl bag extension (which is without fish) takes the load over the drum (6) so that the trawl bag itself which contains the fish catch is spared. Furthermore, the division ('zip') between the trawl bag extension (35) and the trawl net (5) comes past the trawl slip and up onto the deck so that the division can be made on deck, and the inlet (8) can be connected to the trawl bag extension on the deck itself instead of down on the trawl slip where it may be inadvisable to work. It is an advantage if a cable from a trawl winch attached to the trawl bag or trawl bag extension is used before the tail is attached, so that the trawl winch relieves the tension from the trawl net / trawl winch on the trawl bag / trawl bag extension before they are separated and the haul is lowered Fig. 5 shows how, according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the haul is dropped from the deck and down through a slot so that it runs through the sluice channel (4), after which the trawl bag or the trawl bag with the trawl bag extension can be winched in through the lock opening and the sluice channel (4) to the lock chamber (1). The trawl bag extension will here take the load when it is taken up on the drum (7) above the opening in the rre trunk (16) as the trawl bag itself with the catch is pulled in through the lock gate (2) and the sluice channel (4). Fig. 5 also shows the pointed shape that occurs at the front end of the trawl bag when the trawl bag extension is tightened by the tail (8). Fig. 6 is the same vertical section as Fig. 5, and shows the trawl bag (3) as it has been drawn completely into the lock chamber (1) which is now closed by a door (9) in the lock opening, before the trawl bag (3) according to a preferred embodiment of the invention splits and pulls "off" the catch, which can be rather densely packed. The aft part of the trawl sack (3) is prepared to be pulled up through the aft trunk channel (12) to the slot winch (71) on deck. Fig. 7 shows that the trawl bag is opened along the partition, the so-called "zip" (33)
(see fig. 6) in a front part of the trawl bag shown here as well as the trawl bag extension (35). These front parts are taken up on the drum (7) outside the front trunk (16). The opposite aft end part (32) of the trawl bag is pulled up through the aft trunk (12) to a drum (71) on the shelter deck. The trawl bag can alternatively be divided between the front edge of the trawl bag (3) and the trawl bag extension (35) along a similar division or zip as the division (33), especially if it concerns a small trawl bag, where the trawl bag itself is taken up through the aft trunk. The trawl bag is then mostly away from the lock chamber, and the fish can be pumped out of the lock chamber using a fish pump to, for example, a warehouse or for immediate processing in a factory on board the vessel.
The trawl bag containing the catch is taken in floating through the lock opening (2) to the lock chamber (3) at the stern of the vessel, where the lock opening and the lock chamber are largely below the waterline. In this way, crushing of fish is avoided by avoiding pulling the trawl bag in over a trawl slip.
The fish is pumped out of the lock chamber using a pump in a well in the bottom of the lock chamber. A grate with a light opening large enough to allow desired fish sizes to pass through, but small enough to stop sharks and unwanted larger objects, is arranged in the well in front of the inlet including the pump.
An inspection trunk (14) is arranged in the preferred version approximately in the middle of the lock chamber where the partition (33) for the trawl bag will be located (see fig. 6) so that with the aid of an outlet from the lock chamber to a water pump the water level can be lowered and go down and split the trawl bag into a fore and aft part manually if it cannot be released with the help of a "rescuer" through the fore or aft trunk.
