Belegg i form av et tynt sjikt for å tilveiebringe beskyttelse mot korrosjon, og i en viss grad mot slitasje og friksjon, for en gjenstand som består av et korroderbart metallisk materiale, hvilket belegg i det vesentlige utgjøres av silisium, karbon, hydrogen og nitrogen i en sammensetning som er slik at: atominnholdet av hydrogen, målt ved hjelp av ERDA-teknikken, er på 20 ± 5 atom%, atominnholdet av silisium, målt ved hjelp av retrodiffusjonsteknikken ifølge Rutherford (RBS) er på mellom 15 og 28 atom%, forholdet mellom atomkonsentrasjonene av nitrogen og karbon (N/C) er høyere enn 0,9, og materialets hardhet er høyst 2100 daN/mm2.
