Abstract

En blokktransformasjonsbasert digital mediakodek koder mer effektivt transformasjonskoeffisienter med bredt dynamisk verdiområde i to deler: en normalisert koeffisient og beholderadresse. Den normaliserte koeffisient vedrører en gruppering av koeffisientverdier av det brede dynamiske verdiområde i beholdere, mens beholderadressen er en indeks for koeffisientverdien innenfor en beholder. Med omhyggelig valg av beholderstørrelsen har de normaliserte koeffisienter en sannsynlighetsfordeling som ligner mer på transformasjonskoeffisienter med smalt verdiområde, hvilken er bedre egnet til entropikoding med variabel lengde. Kodeken bruker entropikoding med variabel lengde for å kode de normaliserte koeffisienter i en "kjerne" av den komprimerte bitstrøm, og koding med fast lengde for å kode beholderadressen som et separat valgfritt lag som kan utelates. Videre varierer kodeken adaptivt beholderstørrelsen for grupperinger basert på en bakover adaptasjonsprosess for å justere de normaliserte koeffisienter mot en sannsynlighetsfordeling som er godt egnet for effektiv entropikoding med variabel lengde.
