Abstract

Transgene dyr som uttrykker et RNAi-induserende middel målrettet mot et influensa-gen er et annet aspekt ved oppfinnelsen.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides compositions comprising an RNAi-inducing unit targeting a influenza virus transcript and any of a variety of means for delivery. The invention further encompasses methods for using the compositions to inhibit the biological activity of an influenza virus and / or for the treatment or prevention of influenza. The invention provides target proportion sequences that are advantageously conserved for RNAi through a variety of influenza virus A strains isolated from human and / or bird hosts and RNAi-inducing units, e.g. siRNAs and shRNAs, targeting such advantageously conserved target moieties. The invention provides a number of nucleic acids comprising sequences identical or complementary to at least part of one or more of these advantageously conserved target-share sequences. The invention further provides methods and compositions for delivering RNAi-inducing agents to an organ or tissue of a mammalian subject, e.g. to the lung. Methods for diagnosing influenza and determining the sensitivity of an influenza virus to inhibition by an RNAi inducing agent are also provided. Transgenic animals expressing an RNAi-inducing agent targeted to the influenza gene are another aspect of the invention.
