Abstract

I ett aspekt av oppfinnelsen dekker den et tetningsapparat for bruk i et rørformet element. I en bestemt utførelse omfatter dette apparat en ekspanderbar hylse og en ekspanderbar toroid/ringformet pakning. Pakningen ligger i et omkretsspor med salform, i hylsen. Under ekspansjonen presses delen med utvidet diameter sammen, ut mot det rørformede element, men i det minste innledningsvis vil den resterende ikke-sammenpressede del av tetningsflaten holdes intakt, og følgelig vil trykket ved sammenpressingen fokuseres mot det begrensende kontaktareal mellom pakningen og det rørformede element. Fortsatt ekspansjon vil kunne øke kontakttrykket og/eller størrelsen av kontaktarealet. I et særskilt arrangement er pakningen som sørger for tetningsvirkningen av apparatet utformet for å gi gasstett tetningsvirkning.
