Abstract

Det beskrives en fremgangsmåte for analysering av elektromagnetiske undersøkelsesdata fra et område av en sjøbunn (6) som antas eller er kjent å inneholde en ledende eller resistiv masse så som et underjordisk hydrokarbonreservoar (12). Fremgangsmåten innbefatter tilveiebringelse av elektriske feltdata og magnetiske feltdata, eksempelvis magnetflukstetthet, oppnådd med minst én mottaker (25) fra en horisontal elektrisk dipol (HED) transmitter (22) og bestemmelse av en vertikal gradient i de elektriske feltdata. Den vertikale gradienten i de elektriske feltdata og de magnetiske feltdata blir så kombinert for generering av kombinerte responsdata. De kombinerte responsdataene sammenlignes med bakgrunnsdata som er særegne for det området som undersøkes for derved å oppnå differansedata som er sensitive med hensyn til tilstedeværelsen av et underjordisk hydrokarbonreservoar. Fordi de kombinerte responsdata er relativt ufølsomme overfor den transverse elektriske (TE) moduskomponenten til det transmitterte signalet, muliggjør fremgangsmåten at hydrokarbonreservoarer kan detekteres i grunne farvann hvor TE-moduskomponenten som samvirker med luft ellers ville dominere. Videre, fordi det ikke forekommer noen blanding mellom TE og transverse magnet- (TM) moduser i de kombinerte responsdata, kan det benyttes data fra alle mulige transmitter- og mottakerorienteringer. Bakgrunnsdataene kan tilveiebringes ved hjelp av magnettellurisk undersøkelse, elektromagnetiske undersøkelse med styrt kilde eller fra direkte geofysiske målinger.
