Abstract
I et kommunikasjonssystem, særlig et system av typen SDH-DCN, hvor de fleste nett- elementer (NE) virker som mellomsystemer (IS) heller enn endesystemer (ES), er det gjort mulig å minske begrensningene på DCN-topologien som pålegges av IS-IS-rutings- protokollen ved å konfigurere portelementet (GNE) og nettelementene som er direkte forbundet med det, på en slik måte at nettelementer som ikke er porter opptrer som endesystemer overfor resten av systemet. Dette oppnås ved på hver digital kommunika- sjonskanal (DC) å opprette manuelle endesystemtilstøtinger i portelementet for alle nettelementer som kan nås via vedkommende DCC, mens "eksternt domene"-attributten for disse DCC'er innstilles til SANT, og de samme attributter for de tilhørende DCC'er til disse nettelementer som er umiddelbare naboer til portelementet (GNE) innstilles likeledes til SANT, og disse DCCer forsynes med nåbare adresseprefikser (RAP) med null lengde, mens nabo-NE'ene konfigureres som mellomsystemer på nivå 2 (IS L2). Oppfinnelsen gjelder særlig SDH-ringtopologier og i såfall har portelementet to DCC'er, men den gjelder også buss-topologier, og i såfall har portelementet bare en DCC. Det er også tatt hånd om systemer som har mer enn ett portelement.
