Abstract

The machine housing (11) is fitted with running wheels (12) and a shaft (14). An operating element (33), having a central passage and a treatment surface (42), which rests over its entire surface in the operating position on the floor (43) to be treated, can be set in rotary motion by means of an electric motor (15) mounted on the machine housing (11). Arranged in the space (34) enclosed by the passage is a steering roller, the steering axis of which coincides with the axis (31) of rotation of the operating element (33). The steering roller (35) is mounted displaceably in the direction of its steering axis and is subjected to the effect of a compression spring element which presses the steering roller (35) towards the floor (43). In order to ensure that the machine can be driven in any desired direction, and to be able to drive the operating element (33) at a high speed, even with a modest motor capacity, the running wheels (12) are raised from the floor (43) in the operating position of the machine, while the steering roller (35) presses onto the floor (43) with a force which corresponds to the dead weight of the machine (10) apart from a remaining value which results in a specific maximum resting pressure of the operating element (33) on the floor (43) of about 0.25 N/cm<2>. <IMAGE>
