Description
The present invention relates to a marking light for an airport, e.g. for runways or taxiways, and comprising a housing for flight mounting in the ground and with an upper, at least partially transparent cover plate having a planar upper surface to be placed substantially flush with the ground plane, the housing enclosing at least one light source and optical equipment is arranged so that one or more light rays are emitted from at least one part of the cover plate, where said part forms an active zone, while at least another part of the cover plate forms a dead zone that does not emit any light.
Such marker lights of the flush-mounted type are previously known, e.g. from SE-C-78.03611-8 (Tatis Plasttatningar AB), DK-C-113912 (Siemens AG) and EP-B1-22106 (Meta-Fer AG). This flush-mounted type naturally has the advantage that the marker light has no protruding parts, and it can therefore be placed as desired on or near a runway or a taxiway and can be driven over by the wheels of aircraft or other vehicles.
A problem in this connection, however, is the preparation and snow plowing of the runways, which requires the use of steel scrapers on the plowing vehicles to achieve the desired result, especially when there is ice, which is often the case due to the heat emitted from the lighting device. Such steel scrapers often cause scratches and other damage to the light-emitting upper side of the cover plate. In order to prevent such damage, it is proposed in the above-mentioned SE-C-78.03611-8 that hard particles are embedded in the light-emitting, active zone of the cover plate, so that these particles protrude somewhat above the transparent material. This naturally protects the active zone of the cover plate from damage in connection with snow plowing using steel scrapers, but these hard particles will inevitably lead to a disadvantageous reduction in brightness as well as an uncontrollable diffuse spread of the emitted light.
It is an object of the present invention to avoid this problem and to produce a wear-resistant marking light without its light-emitting properties being reduced. This purpose is achieved according to the invention in that a wear-resistant material, which is mainly harder than the transparent material in the cover plate, protrudes from the cover plate exclusively within at least one dead zone, which crosses and/or delimits the main part of the cover plate. Such dead zones, which emit no light, may extend as a strip across the cover plate and/or along at least one peripheral portion of the plate. This achieves the desired mechanical protection, while the emitted light is in no way disturbed by the hard material, which preferably consists of particles that are partially embedded in the cover plate's surface.
Further advantages are stated in the dependent claims 4 to 7 and will appear from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment with reference to the attached drawings. Fig. 1 shows a marker light according to the invention in perspective and where one half of the device has been cut away along a central vertical section to achieve increased visibility.
Fig. 2 viser markeringslyset sett ovenfra. Fig. 2 shows the marker light seen from above.
Fig. 3 viser skjematisk de optiske komponenter sammen med Fig. 3 schematically shows the optical components together with
sine prinsipielt viktigste lysstråler'. its principally most important rays of light'.
The marker light shown in figures 1 and 2 mainly comprises a cylindrical metal casing 1 with a lower bottom plate 1a and an upper, mainly rectangular seat 1b, a reflector lamp 4 mounted in the bottom on a bracket 2, 3, a color filter 5, a transparent insulating plate 6, a light-refracting plate 7 and an upper, transparent cover plate 8 tightly fitted into the seat 1b. As indicated in figure 1, the casing 1 is mounted in a well housing 9 with a lid 10, in such a way that the upper side of the cover plate 8 lies mainly in the ground plane.
The upper mainly rectangular cover plate 8 is preferably made of a transparent plastic material of the epoxy type, namely a relatively durable material, which, if necessary, can be applied with a fresh surface layer to fill in any scratches or other damage in the upper side of the surface. In order to avoid such damage, according to the invention, hard particles are embedded in the surface layer, partly along two longitudinal edge sections 11, 12 and partly along a middle, transverse strip section 13. In this way, the upper side of the cover plate is divided into two rectangular sections 8a, 8b, which each emit light beam, which propagates close to the ground plane (see figure 3). In order to achieve the greatest possible brightness near the ground level, each surface part 8a, 8b is slightly inclined, so that it slopes downwards from the central cross-section 13 in approx. 3° in relation to the horizontal plane.
De langsgående kantpartier 11, 12 og det midtre tverrstilte strimmelparti 13 av dekkplaten 8 utgjør "døde soner" i den The longitudinal edge parts 11, 12 and the middle transverse strip part 13 of the cover plate 8 constitute "dead zones" in the
However, these zones are arranged in such a way in relation to the "active zones" 8a, 8b, that they cross and partially delimit the main part of the cover plate 8, in such a way that a steel scraper or a snow clearing vehicle, regardless of the orientation of the steel scraper (it is assumed since the steel scraper has mainly a greater extent in the longitudinal direction than the dimensions of the cover plate) will not come into contact with the active light-emitting surface parts 8a, 8b. The hard particles in the dead zones 11, 12, 13 are partially embedded in such a way that they partly protrude from and have their upper edge positioned slightly above the surface of the cover plate.
The hard particles are preferably granular and can consist of a mineral, a hard metal, a sintered metal or a ceramic material. Alternatively, a uniform strip of such hard material may be applied to the respective "dead zones".
The design of the dead zones with embedded particles or other hard material can be modified by professionals in the field within the framework of requirement 1.
