Description
Fremgangsmåte ved fremstilling av 4-metylpenten-l.
Denne oppfinnelse angår en fremgangsmåte for dimerisering av propylen, slik at det fås 4-metylpenten-l.
I engelsk patentskrift nr. 824 917 er det beskrevet en fremgangsmåte for dimerisering av propylen så det dannes et hek-senprodukt som utgjøres av heksenisomere, hvilken fremgangsmåte består i at man bringer propylen til å reagere i nærvær av en alkalimetallkatalysator, ved en tempe-ratur av 37,7-205° C og et trykk av 1—100 atmosfærer. Således kan en typisk katalysator bestå av kaliummetall fordelt på ka-liumkarbonat.
I engelsk patent nr. 825 902 er beskrevet at forbindelsen mellom alkalimetaller og elementært kullstoff, hvor forholdet mellom alkalimtetall og kullstoff er fra 1:8 til 1:64, virker som polyimerisasjonsmiddel, og som belysning for dette beskrives det i patentskriftet polymerisasjon av alfa-metyl-styren til høymoltekylære produkter under anvendelse av en katalysator som har formelen KC8.
I henhold til den foreliggende oppfinnelse er det skaffet en fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av 4-metylpenten-l, som består deri at propylen i bare en korit tid holdes i berøring ved under 140° C, med en katalysator som består av eller inneholder et lamellært kompleks av natrium og kullstoff og som har formelen NaC(il.
Fremstilling av lamellære komplekser
er blitt beskrevet av R. C. Asher og S. A. Wilsom i Nature 1958, vol 181, side 409 og følgende, samt av R. C. Asher i J. Inoirg. Nucl, Chem. 1959, vol 10, side 238 og føl-gende.
Som regel blir et på forhånd dannet kompleks av den ovenfor beskrevne type brakt i forbindelse med propylen; dette er ikke av vesentlig betydning hvis polymeri-sasj onsf orholdene er slike, at komplekset dannes in situ, og i dette tilfelle kan en blanding av 'alkalimetall og kullstoff brin-ges i berøring med propylen.
Katalysatoren kan bestå utelukkende av det lamellære kompleks, eller f den kan bestå av eller inneholdte en blanding av det lamellære kompleks og et på kullstoff av-leiret alkalimetall, fortrinsvis kalium, hvilken blanding inneholder det: lamellære kompleks i et hvilket som helst "egnet for-hold. Den proporsjon av katalysatoren, som forekommer i form av lamellært kompleks, bestemmes — iallfall delvis — av arten av det anvendte kullstoff og av de innbyrdes mengdeforhold av alkalimetall og kullstoff. Hvis det ønskes kan katalysatoren ennvi-dere inneholde fritt kullstoff. Hvis det ønskes kan katalysatoren inneholde fritt alkalimetall.
Kulstoffet anvendes fortrinsvis helt eller delvis i form av naturgrafitt eller syn-tetisk grafitt. Men det kan også anvendes andre kulMofformer, forutsatt at de kan reagere med et alkalimetall under dannelse av et lamellært kompleks. Det kan således anvendes kullstofformer som inneholder grafitt i mikrokrystallinsk form, sammen med kullstoff som eir av slik art at det ikke danner lamtellære komplekser med alkalimetaller.
Som regel blir det anvendt høyere trykk enn atmosfæretrykket, fortrinsvis 3,5-280 kg/cm-. Kombinasjonen av poliyme-risiasjonsbetingelser velges slik at den be-gunstiger dannelse av 4-metylpem-ten-l.
Fremgangsmåten kan utføres med eller uten tilstedeværelse av et oppløsnings-middel. Foretrukne oppløsningsmidler er hydrokarboner, f. eks. normalt flytende paraffiner; normalt heptan er et særlig godt egnet oppløsningsmiddel.
Fortrinsvis er det propylen som skal polyineriseres fritt for vann. Generelt bør det ikke inneholde over 0,001 vekt-% vann. Sammenliknet med en fremgangsmåte hvor det benyttes propylen som er mettet med vann er økningen av utbyttet av pro-pylendimer, ved vanlige reaksjonsbetingel-ser siom regel meget markert og kan i visse tilfelle være så stor som 30 vekt-%.
Det vil forstås, at det er av vesentlig betydning å unngå arbeidsbetingelser som ville medføre tilstedeværelse av en «vann-klump» i den flytende fase som kommer til katalysator massen.
Som regel vil den anvendte kontakttid i polymerisasjonisreabs janen være betyde-lig under 12 timer, som regel også kortere enn 3 timer. Fortrinsvis er den under 1 time. Vanligvis vil kontakttiden være over 1 minutt, som regel også over 5 minutter. En hensiktsmessig kontakttid er av stør-relsesordenen 30 minutter.
Foittrinsvis er det propylen som tilføres fritt for allen og for metylacetylen. Hvis slike forbindelser i det hele tatt er til stede bør de utgjøre under 0,02 vekt-% av propylenet.
Fortrinsvis blir de forbindelser, som anvendes som råmaterialer, først behand-let slik at deres innhold av allen eller/og metylacetylen blir nedsatt ved selektiv hy-drering over en understøttet eller båret nikkelkatalysator, f. eks. nikkel på sepio-lite.
Propylenet bør være fritt for oksygen; hvis oksygen er tilstede bør 'det ikke ut-gjøre over 5 vektdeler pr. million, beregnet på propylenet.
Hvis det ønskes kan propylenet benyttes som matematerlale i nærvær av en gass som er inert under reaksjonsbetingelsene. Således kan nitrogen, metan, etan eller propan være til stede i matematerialet.
Reaksjonen utføres porsrjonsvis1 eller kontinuerlig.
Katalysatoren kan anvendes i form av et fastliggende lag, et fluidisert lag eller som et slam i et oppløsningsiniddel eller i et eller flere av reaksjonsproduktene.
I henhold til en utførelse av oppfinnelsen er det skaffet en fremgangsmåte
som består i at propylen holdes i kontakt med en katalysator som består av eller inneholder et lamellært kompleks av natrium og kullstoff, med formelen NaCli4, at man fra produktet utvinner en C(i-fraksjon og fra denne C(!-fraksjon utvinner 4-metylpenten-l.
Utvinning av produktet skjer som regel ved destillasjon. Vanlig blir destillasjo-nen utført i en kolonne som har minst 60, hensiktsmessig ca. 100 teoretiske plater.
Oppfinnelsen belyses av det følgende eksempel.
Eksempel:
Grafitt (128 g, 107 g-atomer), ble tør-ket ved 400° C og 0,1 mm Hg-trykk i 30 minutter. Opphetningen ble fortsatt ved 400° C i en atmosfære av rant nitrogen, og til den omrørte grafitt ble det tilsatt natrium (3,8 g, 0,166 g-a,tomer). Blandingen ble omrørt under disse betingelser i 30 minutter.
Den således dannende katalysator ble anbrakt i en reaktor av rustfritt stål, slik at katalysatoren dannet et lag av 20 cm lengde og 4 cm diameter. Gj ennom reakto-ren ble det nedover ledet propylen under et trykk på 105 kg/cm<2>. Reaksjonstempe-raturen var 126° C og tilførselen av flytende propylen/time/volum var 0,416.
Fra produktet ble C(-hydrokarbonene utvunnet ved destillasjon. Cri-hydrokarbo-nene utvunnet ved destillasjon, (^-frak-sjonen hadde følgende analyse:
Det er en fordel ved den foreliggende oppfinnelse, at det på økonomisk måte kan fremstilles 4-metylpeniten-l under anvendelse av en katalysator av sllamtype.
Claims (3)
1. Fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av 4-metylpenten-l, karakterisert ved at propylen ved et trykk på 3,5-280 kg/cm<2 >i bare en kort tid holdes i berøring ved under 140° C, fortrinsvis 100—140° C, med en katalysator som består av eller inneholder et lamellært kompleks av natrium og kullstoff og som har formelen NaC(!4.
2. Fremgangsmåte ifølge påstand 1, karakterisert ved at det lamellære kompleks er fremstilt av metallisk natrium og grafitt.
3. Fremgangsmåte ifølge påstand 1 eller 2, karakterisert ved at propy-lenets kontakttid med katalysatoren ligger innenfor området 5 til 60 minutter.
