Description
Klatretau. Climbing rope.
The invention relates to a climbing rope which, due to its special construction and the raw materials used, must satisfy two completely different requirements which must be met on the one hand when climbing peaks and on the other hand in the event of a fall in the rope.
Klatretau's stresses appear familiar in many different ways. During normal climbing work, the rope is mainly subjected to tensile stress, while in the event of a fall in the rope, there is an unusually high impact stress.
In the first case, i.e. for belaying and work with climbing ropes when climbing peaks, it is desirable to have at least mu-
Tau som strekker seg meget er derfor i høy grad uønsket for arbeidet med klatretau ved tindebestigninger og i sær- equal extension of the rope, as a small stretchable climbing rope allows those to be secured to follow each of the driver's movements exactly. A rope with a large capacity for extension would dampen these movements from the driver and the signs possibly given through the rope so strongly for those to be secured, that these movements only reach indistinctly or do not reach comprehensibly. Ropes that stretch a lot are therefore highly undesirable for work with climbing ropes for summit ascents and in special
In unfortunate situations, they can even threaten the lives of everyone connected to the rope.
På den annen side er det ved et fall On the other hand, there is a fall
Denne spenningshøyde be-grenses på den ene side ved tauets bruddfasthet og på den annen side særlig ved det menneskelige legemes mulighet til å oppta sjokkliknende trykkbelastninger in the rope, sufficient damping is necessary and, consequently, with ropes with high stretchability in order not to allow the rope tension at the moment of the interception shock to increase beyond a specific target. This height of tension is limited on the one hand by the breaking strength of the rope and on the other hand in particular by the human body's ability to absorb shock-like pressure loads
The rope forces acting on the body of the person who falls down at the moment he is caught should in no way increase to an order of magnitude which, with an intact rope, threatens the life of the person falling down by the possibility of fractures. This case does not occur when the leader belays dynamically, which he should do, if at all possible, i.e. produce braking friction by means of a rope guide, e.g. around the hip, in order to slowly catch the person who falls down. In addition to strength and skill, however, this requires mastery of the corresponding technique, e.g. the hip protection. Completely different conditions exist, however, with the static rope securing, by which is meant the non-yielding and rigid anchoring of the rope in the piece of rope that goes from the carabiner to the one to be secured. In the event of a fall in such a fixed rope - which must always be counted on in an emergency - the overall damping of the fall must, however, be produced by the stretchability and elasticity of the rope itself. It is very likely that up to now - especially with climbing ropes made of natural fibers - a static slope protection has caused the rope to break and thus the leader to fall.
For safety reasons, the summit climber therefore had to, at least on difficult climbs, actually carry two different ropes, and then one rope with very little stretchability and one with high stretchability.
The high demands that must therefore be placed on a climbing rope are not met by the known ropes, which only contain a core formed of fully synthetic threads running in the lengthwise direction of the rope, and a sheath of fully synthetic threads or natural fibres.
It was now found that, with the help of a special construction and the use of appropriate raw materials, a climbing rope can be produced which, with moderate tensile loads, only allows a small stretch of the rope, and with high impact loads, which are absorbed in a fall, in the final stage exhibits a high elongation at break. Such a rope is made in three parts of fully synthetic threads with high tensile strength, but with the exception that the sheath can also consist of natural fibres. The inner part of longitudinally straightened threads, which is called the center part in the following, has a small elongation at break, while the part that is twisted or braided around it, called the core, has a very high elongation at break, and the outer part, which is braided around the center part and The core, the so-called mantle, has a smaller fracture elongation. While the core has a high load capacity, the load capacity of the mantle and the center part is less.
By means of tests and calculations, the breaking strength and breaking elongation limits, which a climbing rope according to the invention must have, were determined.
Ruff, Verlag Ambrosius Barth, Munchen). The pressure load during the climbing work must be taken up exclusively by the central part, which has little stretchability in its length. Its load capacity must correspond to three times the climber's body weight, which is assumed to be 80 kg, i.e. 240 kg. Taking into account an experimentally established strength drop of 40 per cent due to the bending stress of the rope in the carabiner hook, the strength of all threads in the central part must therefore amount to 400 kg. The elongation at break should therefore not exceed 10 per cent. Because of this small elongation, the moderate tension of the rope practically only strains the central part, so that the requirements for the rope for peak climbing are fulfilled. With regard to the required load capacity of the core, the highest stress that the human body can withstand without being injured has been assumed. This is located, as determined by extensive research, at approx. 1200 kg. (Coll. "Grundriss fur Flugmedizin" by Strughold, 3rd edition, edited by prof. dr. med. Ruff, Verlag Ambrosius Barth, Munich).
Den er som kjent lik produktet av vekten (G) og summen av fallhøyden For calculating the elongation at break that the core must have, the following can be stated: The working capacity of a pipe is the product of load capacity (P) times elongation at break (D), times filling value (e) (Vollig keitswert). The latter lies between 0.5 and 0.33 and for security reasons should be inserted with 0.33. In the event of a fall, the falling person's kinetic energy must not exceed this work capacity. It is known to be equal to the product of the weight (G) and the sum of the drop height
(h) og bruddforlengelsen (D). Den ugun-stigste belastningsform fremkommer da (h) and the fracture extension (D). The most unfavorable form of load then appears
Det blir altså when the drop height corresponds to twice the rope length. In this case, h = 2 when referring to the above-mentioned kinetic energy to 1 m rope length. So it will be
G . (2 + D) = P . D . e G. (2 + D) = P . D. e
An undershoot of this value of up to 45 per cent is permissible, as the fill value (Volligkeitswert) was set very low, and at a fill value of 0.36 the calculation shows an extension of 45 per cent. under 1200 kg, which will be explained in more detail below. With a load capacity for the core of up to 1,200 kg, the breaking strength of the sum of its strands must naturally be higher, as in the case of a broken core an impact loss of approx. 10 per cent and a firmness loss of approx. 40 percent in the case of bending stress in the carabiner. When, on the other hand, it is taken into account that the center part absorbs part of the load when broken, which corresponds to approx. 240 kg, the core must have a firmness of approx. 1700 kg.
(2 -f D) = P . D . e fås for e = % : 6G = D . (P-3G) eller P = (6G : D) + 3G eller for G == 80 kg : P == (480 : D) + 240, dvs. kjernens belastningsevne må generelt ha omtrent følgende verdier: tindebestigerens seksdobbelte vekt dividert med kjernens forlengelse i prosent, forøket med tindebestigerens tredobbelte vekt. For D = 80 pst. = 0,80 fåes da for P verdien 840 kg. As the core's elongation at break increases, the maximum capture shock at the same kinetic energy becomes smaller, which is evident from the above-mentioned conditions. A high stretchability of the core is therefore always desirable. It finds its limits in the breaking elongation of the base material plus the elongation increase which is also given by the construction of the core. From the equation G . (2 -f D) = P . D. e is obtained for e = % : 6G = D . (P-3G) or P = (6G : D) + 3G or for G == 80 kg : P == (480 : D) + 240, i.e. the load capacity of the core must generally have approximately the following values: six times the climber's weight divided by the core's elongation in percent, increased by three times the climber's weight. For D = 80 percent = 0.80, the value for P is 840 kg. Due to the load absorption by means of the central part, this value can be reduced by 3 G = 240 kg, so that it can be assumed as a usable rule that P = 6 G : D resp. P = 480 : D or that taking into account deviations
P . D ikke skal ligge under 450. P. D must not be below 450.
Here, too, the breaking strength of the core threads must of course be higher, as already shown above.
The mantle primarily serves to protect the core from damage. There are therefore no special requirements for its load capacity, so that a load capacity of approx. 300 kg is sufficient, which is easily achieved with the help of the necessary amount of material for uncovering the core.
The extension of the mantle must, as mentioned above, in any case be less than that of the core, and then preferably approx. 20 to 30 per cent, so that the mantle cracks before the core's load capacity is reached. Thereby, the interception shock and thus the load-bearing capacity of the mantle is dampened again, after its load-bearing capacity was already reduced in the first stage by tearing of the slightly extendable central part. This reduction of the kinetic energy when falling in steps has a double advantage, as both the stress on the core and the risk of body damage are thereby significantly reduced, because in this way at least the permissible catch shock of approx. 1,200 kg is not exceeded, but, on the other hand, is more likely to be significantly lowered.
It should also be noted that when the rope is used during peak climbing, the extension ability of the core and the mantle is significantly strained during the elongation at break of the central part, i.e. well below 10 per cent. Thereby, the rope according to the invention has a considerably increased possibility of application.
The rope according to the invention thus acts when climbing as a rope that has little ability to extend. When falling, the kinetic energy is divided into three stages, with the central part first absorbing approx. 250 kg and then the mantle approx. 300 kg and finally the core absorbs the residual impact.
The following examples show embodiments of ropes according to the invention. The numbers mentioned refer to the drawing.
Eksempel 1. Example 1.
= 428 kg. b) Kjernen 2 fremstilles av 58 mindre strukkede polyamidkabler av hver 7500 a) The central part 1 is produced, e.g. of 10 cables let off each 7500 den. high-stretch polyethylene threads with 5.7 g/den. tensile strength and 7-8 percent elongation, so that a total tensile strength of 75,000 denier is obtained. 5.7 g/den. = 428 kg. b) The core 2 is made from 58 less stretched polyamide cables of 7500 each
De 58 kabler it. with a tensile strength of 4.5 g/den. and approx. 35 percent elongation at break. The 58 cables
slåes etter følgende skjema i fire lag rundt sentraldelen (på tegningen er bare tre antydet, nemlig 2a—c). is beaten according to the following scheme in four layers around the central part (in the drawing only three are indicated, namely 2a—c).
(Sentraldel + 6 + 12 + 16)S + 24 Z. (Central part + 6 + 12 + 16)S + 24 Z.
= 1760 kg. Stroke length and stroke direction increase the core's elongation by 50 percent and also provide, even without thermal fixation, a completely tension-free rope. The 58 cables give an arithmetic firmness of 58 x 7500 den. x 4.5 g/den. = 1960 kg, which is reduced by means of a shock loss of approx. 10 percent to 1,760 kg. c) The mantle 3 is laced around the core and central part in Barmer braid. It is produced, for example, from normally drawn polyamide cables of 3,000 each. with a firmness of 6.0 g/den. and an extensibility of 22 per cent. As approx. 40 per cent of the total weight of core and sheath, 96 cables must be used, so that the total strength amounts to 96 x 3000 den. x 6.0 g/den. = 1760 kg.
With the help of the type of braiding, only approx. 33 per cent is exploited and a further loss of approx. 40 percent occurs at the bend in the carabiner barrel. Taking into account all these reductions in firmness, there is still a load capacity of around 355kg left.
The sheath's grip was improved by the fact that the individual sheath cables had different thicknesses, as shown in the drawing at 3a and 3b.
Eksempel 2. Example 2.
a) Sentraldelens oppbygning ble gjennomført som i eksempel 1. b) For kjernen ble det anvendt mind-de strukkede polyamidkabler på hver 7500 a) The construction of the central part was carried out as in example 1. b) For the core, the minimum stretched polyamide cables of 7,500 each were used

Under hensyntagen til et eksperimentelt fastslått gjennomsnittlig forseg-lingstap (som tilsvarer «slagtapet» i eksempel 1) på 18 pst. og et tap på 40 pst. ved hjelp av bøyningspåkjenning, er en bruddfasthet på kjernetrådene på 1550 kg takes into account the load absorption at the central part to approx. 650 kg. Taking into account an experimentally determined average sealing loss (corresponding to the "impact loss" in example 1) of 18 percent and a loss of 40 percent by means of bending stress, a breaking strength of the core wires is 1550 kg
These conditions are amply fulfilled by the 50 cables which have a breaking strength of 1700 kg.
