Abstract

The invention relates to a quick-release coupling for connecting trusses to one another in a rapid, effective manner. Trusses are triangular or square structures which are used in the theatre and construction of stands for holding lighting and decorations. The coupling system which has been used hitherto comprises a piece of tube of relatively small diameter, which is fitted into the truss and secured by means of nuts and bolts. The connection brought about in this way has a number of significant drawbacks, in particular the fact that the load-bearing capacity of the structure decreases and the possibility of free spans is very limited, due to the play which arises. The new conical coupling connects the components in such a manner that it is impossible for there to be any play, with the result that the load-bearing capacity is considerably increased, while there is no question of bending even in the case of long spans. These extremely positive properties arise through the combination of various cones which ensure that the components are rigidly fixed together.

Description

Snelkoppeling voor trus-systeemShortcut for trus system

The invention relates to a quick coupling for coupling trusses together.

Trusses are aluminum constructions in a triangle or square shape, which are used in theater / stage construction and in stand construction to hang lighting and decorations.

The coupling consists of five parts, namely two conical sleeves with Morse taper holes which are welded to the pipes, one point piece with two conical ends and Morse taper holes therein and two Morse taper dowel pins which fix the whole.

The coupling system currently used in most cases consists of a piece of pipe of a smaller diameter which is inserted into the larger pipe with two holes drilled in it, through which two bolts are inserted and tightened.

The connection that is established in this way has a number of major drawbacks, viz. the carrying capacity of the construction decreases significantly, if the bolts and nuts are too tight, the pipes deform so that reuse is not possible, during transport the ends can be damaged in such a way that use is no longer possible, all in all a vulnerable system which the new quick coupling system is overcome.

These disadvantages are mainly experienced by the companies in the stand construction and the companies that rent out the trus system and therefore regularly have to build and dismantle the constructions.

The major advantages of the quick coupling system are that all parts are less likely to damage as described above, the various attachments are quick and trouble-free, as Meccano and Lego are interchangeable and linkable, while the load capacity is fully preserved.
