Description
Voorbehandeling van vezelplaten.Pre-treatment of fiber boards.
The invention relates to making an edge surface of a wood fiber board suitable for paint application.
These plates consist of wood fibers and an adhesive that connects these wood fibers. The main surfaces of the plates are generally well paintable, but surfaces which rely on material that is not one of the main surfaces, mentioned in the following edge surfaces, present difficulties in applying paint. These consist in that, if no measures are taken, a great deal of paint is absorbed without a good visible layer being obtained. In practice, paint is sprayed on, which partly penetrates into the pores, let this paint dry, spray paint on again, which is partly retained by the already dried layer, sand the whole smooth and then apply the final coat. This is time-consuming and labor-intensive and also requires more paint than is required on one of the main surfaces of the plate, for example.
Several solutions have already been proposed for pretreatment of such a layer.
For a wood surface, German Auslege No. 1,290,849 discloses synthetic resins and a solvent grinding of the surface to be processed under certain conditions to the concentration of the solvent.
Swiss patent 399,722 discloses an operation for pretreating a surface of wood or artificial wood, in which wood sawdust is driven into the pores together with synthetic resin. It is not clear what at the time of the filing of this patent, that is to say in 1961, is to be understood as artificial wood.
Pat. No. 3,219,473 describes an operation to make a paint application surface suitable for removing hairs which can re-direct themselves during dyeing. This is done by means of a rubbing element, which is heated by the friction and thus the dots are removed. A resinous film-forming binder is also used.
For wood, it is further proposed in German Patent 906,189 to apply a protein-containing solution.
All of these solutions do not address the important problem underlying the invention, which is to obtain a closed surface through which no paint penetrates.
The invention provides a solution to this by providing that the pores in the edge surface are closed by moving the edge surface along a heated ironing surface while pressing the ironing surface against the edge surface.
Reference is made in this connection to Dutch patent application 6707504, from which it is known to burn away hairs by means of a burner heated to about 500 ° C. This treatment is used as post-processing on chipped wood fiber products. These appear to consist of a three-layer structure, the outer layer of which is subjected to this treatment. No further details are available, but it may be assumed that this outer layer as a final layer has a high content of plastic or resin. Consequently, the problem of pores that need to be closed has probably not arisen and is therefore not mentioned in this patent application.
Preferably, the ironing surface is heated to 250-350 ° C. It has been found that this can completely prevent fire discolouration, but that a smooth surface is obtained, which, as experience has shown, forms a well-adhering substrate for conventional paints and lacquers. .
The contact pressure is preferably 5-25 kg / cm2. This pressing pressure is not entirely fixed, because a resilient arrangement of pressing members and ironing members is preferably avoided. Such a resilient arrangement does give a well-defined contact pressure, but has the drawback that the members have to be retrieved when a new object to be processed is introduced.
It has been found that in this way the normal production variations in the thickness of profiles can be fully absorbed and that a smooth processing of large series is possible.
According to a further elaboration of the invention, provision is made for a profile cut from a fiberboard with at least one edge surface running from one main surface of the fiberboard to the other major surface thereof to be advanced in the longitudinal direction by means of driven rollers and the iron.
It is possible to work in two directions by, for example, pressing the profile both horizontally and vertically on the same or different ironing members.
The latter is of particular importance when the edge surface has a straight surface and a curved part adjoining it close to one of the main surfaces and the ironing surface has a complementary shape, the profile passing through one opposite the straight surface and one opposite the curved flattened pressing member is moved towards the ironing surface.
It is of course possible that a pressing member also has an ironing surface, for instance when a profile has to be processed with two opposite edge surfaces.
The invention also includes a device suitable for applying the method and a profile obtained using the method.
The invention is further elucidated hereinbelow with reference to the drawing, in which: Fig. 1 schematically shows a longitudinal view of an apparatus for applying the invention; and Fig. 2 schematically shows a cross section at the location of the pressing and ironing members.
In fig. In Fig. 1, reference numeral 1 denotes an ironing member, which is arranged along a track with a supporting surface 4 with rollers 7 freely rotating below it, which project slightly above the top of the surface 4. Driven rollers 5 are arranged on the top side, which can be pressed onto a profile 3 to be processed by means not shown.
As can be seen more particularly from Fig. 2, there are two opposing ironing members 1 and 2, which also serve as pressing members for each other. These ironing members have a straight surface 8 and below that a small circular arc 9. The surfaces 8 can be either vertical or slightly inclined. The pressing members 6 serve to press the profile 3 downwards onto the curved part 9 of the ironing members 1 and 2.
Experience shows that in this way a very good paintable profile is obtained, which can be painted in one operation.
