Description
Dubbele straalbuis.Double nozzle.
The invention relates to a double jet pipe, in particular for use as an enclosure around a ship's propeller.
It has been known for several decades to place marine propellers in a ring. Two types can be distinguished. One type in which the ring is connected with the blades of the ship's propeller and therefore rotates with the blades, and the other type, in which the ship's propeller can rotate independently in a fixed ring, which is suitably connected to the ship's wall.
In British Patent No. 1,324,356 it is described that the propulsion of ships can be improved by arranging a ring around the ship's propeller as well as a second ring, which is coaxial with the first, with a gap between the first and the second ring such that the internal surfaces of the two rings lie on a common gradual curve and the slit extends inwardly and backwardly. As a result, greater lift strokes are obtained than is available with a single ring. It is also stated that it is possible to set up the two rings, whereby the screw rotates within one of the two rings.
1According to the invention it has now been found that an improvement of the propulsion efficiency compared to this known arrangement is obtained by using a double jet tube. This bubble jet consists of a main tube and a second flap acting as a fixed flap, where the second tube, viewed in the propulsion direction, is located behind the main tube and with the main tube forms a slit inward and inward, so that the fixed flap forms a propulsion-promoting effect. Contrary to the prior art described above, it is not necessary for the double nozzle according to the invention that the internal surfaces of the two parts lie on a common, smooth curve. The two parts of the double jet tubes, main tube and fixed flap, are preferably connected to each other, although they can also be independently connected to the hull by means known per se. The interconnection can e.g. are effected by continuous parts of the tube-forming material, such as in the form of radial plates. 1
It has been found that a slight offset of the interior of the fixed flap with respect to that of the main tube outwards leads to a better efficiency. This is analogous to the known improvement of the efficiency of conventional tubes by increasing the difference. fusor angle, albeit subject to a limit of about 7 degrees due to the risk of flow detachment. However, due to the interaction of head tube and flap, this limit does not apply to the present invention.
The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the appended drawing, which is given by way of example, and in which:
Figuur 1 een langsdoorsnede toont van een dubbele straalbuis volgens de uitvinding; enFigure 1 shows a longitudinal section of a double nozzle according to the invention; and
Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the double nozzle according to Figure 1 in detail.
Fig. 1 shows a double nozzle formed by main body 1 and fixed flap 2, which are attached to a ship's wall 3 by appropriate means (not shown). Inside the main tube is a screw composed of blades 4 mounted on a hub 5 which is driven by a shaft in a manner known per se (not shown). The main tube 1, viewed in the axis direction, has a circular cross section. Main tube 1 is tapered rearwardly and the tapered portion partially overlaps a front portion of the fixed flap 2, with a gap 6 extending backward and inward between main tube 1 and fixed flap 2.
A further elaboration of the latter is shown in Fig. 2, in which the main tube 1 and the fixed flap 2 are shown without representation of the fasteners used for this, with the gap 6 being formed between the two nozzle sections, the latter being formed between the rejuvenated part. 1a of main tube 1 and the front part 2a of fixed flap 2.
The double nozzle according to the invention can be used in different combinations with the screw. Although the most common arrangement is to place the propeller in the main body 1 of the twin nozzle, good results are also obtained when the twin nozzle, viewed in sailing direction, is placed in front of the propeller. It will further be clear that the screw thus arranged can, if desired, be provided with blades with adjustable pitch.
