Short indication: Method for processing manure and a device to be used for this.
The invention relates to a method for processing manure into a granular product by drying the starting manure. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out such a method consisting of a mixer and dryer with the necessary supply and discharge pipes.
Due to the intensified livestock farming, such as in pig farming, mink breeding and chicken and fox farms, a considerable manure surplus has been created. In order to solve the problem of this surplus, various proposals have already been made, such as the transport of manure 15 to areas with a shortage of fertilizers, which system has the drawback, however, that transport is expensive. In practice, the soil is now fertilized too heavily by scattering the manure over the land, which in turn has disadvantages with regard to the contamination of the groundwater. Furthermore, a large amount of manure is stored in tanks and 20 wells pending the possibility of processing this manure.
Applicants have developed a method of drying the manure into a granular product, but it has been found that manure-containing mixtures are difficult to dry if they contain too much moisture. This drying proceeds considerably more easily when the drying is started with a material with a certain solid content and the method according to the invention is therefore characterized in that an amount of 4-30% by weight of already dried manure is mixed with the starting material. is added to obtain a fertilizer mixture with a dry matter content of 30-50 wt%, which thickened mixture is further dried in a drying tunnel to a solid content of 80-90 wt% and removed for further use. Preferably, the final product thus obtained with a solids content of 80-90% is fed to a combustion plant because the manure thus obtained has a high calorific value. The heat obtained therefrom can be used to heat the stables or to preheat and thicken slurry and the like before this manure is mixed with a certain amount of already dried manure.

1.This method is carried out in an apparatus which is further elucidated with reference to the following description, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which: fig. 1 shows the mixing device as used in the first step of the present method, fig. 2 the shows drying tunnel as used in the second step of the present method and fig. 3 shows the storage silo and heating installation, on the one hand as the last part that is used in the present method and on the other hand is connected to the mixer as shown in fig. 1.
The apparatus according to Figs. 1, 2 and 3 shown in the drawing together form the device as used for carrying out the present method.
15 In fig. 1 the mixer 1 is provided with a feed 2 with which the relatively wet manure is supplied directly from the shed or possibly pre-concentrated slurry via line 2. This pumpable manure is supplied with the aid of pump 3 and via the spoons 7. to mixer 1 equipped with stirrer 4, which is driven by motor 8. 20 The manure supplied via line 2 has a dry matter content of approximately 7-25%, with pig slurry having a dry matter content of 7-10% and manure coming from of chickens has a dry matter content of 25% or higher. Dried manure with a solids content of 80-90% is fed to mixer 1 via line 5 in an amount of 4-30% calculated on the weight of the supplied manure via line 2. After intensive mixing, a manure mixture is obtained which is fed via line 6 is discharged to the drying tunnel as shown in FIG. 2 and the manure supplied to the drying tunnel 10 of FIG. 2 via line 6 has a dry matter content of 30-50% by weight. Thus, a mixture is supplied to the drying tunnel 10 which has such consistency that it can be dried or concentrated in a dryer as shown in Fig. 2 considerably more efficiently than when the manure which is supplied via line 2 to the mixer 1, would be supplied directly to the drying tunnel 10. Drying tunnel 10 is provided with a number of conveyor belts 15 passing through it which pass through the tunnel in the direction as shown by the arrows 18, the material being supplied via line 6 and distributor 14 on the first belt, to the second and next belt is discharged and 6602348 ™ '~' ----_ 'r Ψ -3- 25777 / Vk / mvl is further thickened and finally discharged via manure auger 16, with the manure has a dry matter content of 80-90%. Drying in the drying tunnel is carried out using heated air, for example, stable air which is supplied via pipe 11 and is discharged via 5 pipe 12. This air is conveyed in the drying tunnel using fan 13.
The manure which is removed from the drying tunnel 10 via manure auger 16 is supplied to the storage location or silo 20 as shown in fig. 3. In the device according to the invention, the use of such a storage vessel or silo 20 is desired to form a buffer for the obtained final product which can be used in various ways as can be seen from fig. 3. The material with a dry matter content of 80 to 90%, which is stored in silo 20, is discharged therefrom on the one hand via line 5 and fed to mixer 1 as shown in fig. 1 and for the most part discharged via line 23 to a heating installation 21, where the dried manure product is burned.
It has been found that the obtained manure with a dry matter content of 80-90% has a high calorific value. The heat obtained in installation 21 can be used for heating stables 20 22 and the waste gases, as discharged via line 24, can be used for preheating slurry that is supplied to line 2 or to already partially fill this slurry thicken. The ash obtained from the heating installation 21 is discharged therefrom via line 25 and can serve as fertilizer.
In this way a virtually closed system has been obtained for processing slurry, chicken manure and the like, with the end product having a relatively small amount of ash which can be used as fertilizer per se and an amount of energy obtained for heating stables or other buildings.
From the following table it can be deduced which composition has the starting materials which are supplied to mixer 1 via line 2 and the composition of the ash that can be used as fertilizer, discharged via line 25.
