Abstract

The ball-bearing comprises two races, each with a groove in which the balls work, these being held apart by spring components between them. These components are formed by an endless plastics thread (4), passed round the balls (3) in a zigzag pattern. The contact surface between balls and thread is at or near their axes of rotation, in addition to which its flexibility allows them to run along it at a relatively low speed, thus reducing friction and wear.

KogellegerBall bearing

The invention relates to a ball bearing comprising two rings each provided with a groove, which grooves together. form a path for a number of bullets, with resilient means arranged between the balls to keep the bullets at some distance from each other.

Such a ball bearing is known from French patent specification 338,363, which describes resilient means between the balls, which are formed by compression springs. The resilience ensures that the balls have some freedom of movement relative to each other, which reduces the friction between the balls and the rings. On the other hand, however, is the friction between the balls and the springs, which in certain circumstances can lead to excessive wear, especially of the springs.

The invention provides a solution to the problem posed in that the resilient means are formed by an endless plastic wire, which is zigzagged around the balls. The contact surface between the wire and the balls is at or near the axis of rotation of the balls, while, moreover, due to the flexibility of the wire, the balls can run down the wire, the wire circling the balls 20 at a relatively slow speed. Friction and wear are negligibly small.

Fig. 5 een bovenaanzicht van het leger volgens Fig. 3.Fig. 5 is a top view of the bearing of FIG. 3.

In the Figures 1 and 2 bearing rings, with 3 balls, with 4 a 10 plastic wire and with 5 a groove in the ring 2 are indicated. The invention is applicable to many types of ball bearings; the Figures indicate the most common. The rings 1 and 2 rotate past each other during operation, while the balls 3 run down the rings. The plastic thread 4, which is made of nylon, Teflon or such a plastic, runs zigzag between the balls, as shown in FIG. 2 and 4 can be seen. Where the wire touches the balls, the peripheral speed of the balls is low or equal to zero. The latter may be the case with the embodiment according to FIG. 1. In the embodiment according to Fig. 3, the wire will lie against the inner ring 2, albeit with a small pressing force.

Fewer bullets will suffice in the embodiment according to the invention than if spacing springs are used as in accordance with the said patent specification.

Het vlies wordt gedragen door de legerring 1.The invention can be applied to armies with steel balls and rings in small and large designs. The invention has even been successfully applied to an army made entirely of plastic, in which nothing could be detected after months of continuous operation of wear. The army according to fig. 3-5 relates to this application. In front of the illuminator of a satellite dish, a plastic fleece 6 is hereby rotated to swing away rainwater. The fleece is carried by the bearing ring 1.
