Abstract

The battery is formed by fuel cell blocks (8, 9) and a beam (2) for the supply and removal of fuel, oxidising agent and electrolyte. The beam includes pipes (5a, 5b etc.) for conducting the various fluids separately. The beam may be I-shaped with the fuel cell blocks located on opposite sides of the intermediate web (3) and the supply pipes located in the end sections (4a, 4b). Increases in internal pressure are taken up by the intermediate web, and an auxiliary device may also be provided to absorb pressure increases. A number of such batteries can be stacked to form a larger battery section and the beams may form main air and fuel supply pipes through the stacked batteries.
