Abstract

Cement prods. are claimed comprising a mixt. of non-hydrated cement and particles of a rubber material. Pref. the rubber particles are is not >12 mm in size. The compsn. may also contain sand, gravel, road metal, hardening accelerators and/or colouring material. The rubber material is pref. milled scrap tyres from which the metal has been removed, so that the compsn. is a useful way of disposing of these. The prods. are hardened with water as with ordinary cement prods. and are cast in the usual way into opt. metal-reinforced articles. The prods. have good heat- and sound insulation properties, good shock absorbing properties and good heat retention characteristics. They are useful in the prodn. of insulating bodies, bumpers, shock absorbing flooring, vibration dampers, night storage radiators, solar heat collectors, building blocks, floor and wall tiles, etc. The cured materials can be sawn, cut, drilled, etc., with ordinary woodworking tools.
