Abstract

A vessel comprising top, sidewall and base, is divided into 2 chambers by a horizontal division plate. In the lower chamber gas connections pass through the base end with a nozzle. These nozzles are positioned close to orifices in the horizontal division plate. A liq. inlet is connected to the sidewall of the lower chamber of the vessel. The upper chamber includes the top of the vessel arranged a short distance from the division plate. The rapid stream of gas and liq. coming through the orifices in the division plate impinge on the top of the vessel. This forms very fine gas bubbles in the liquid. One or more orifices are positioned in the sidewall of the upper chamber for the exit of the liq. contg. fine bubbles. Used for oxidn. of liqs. in a tower, e.g. oxidn. of sulphite ions in soln of aluminium sulphate contg. absorbed SO2 using air. Appts. has no moving parts subject to abrasion, is easy to construct and install and is more efficient than the moving devices.
