Abstract
The reciprocating-piston engine, in which the end of the piston rod (14) coupled to the crankshaft (1) follows a longer path on the outward stroke than on the inward. This can be achieved by extending the crankpin beyond the crankshaft webs on one or both sides, so as to engage in an endless cam groove (6) formed in the crankcase wall, and having a circular portion corresponding to the inward stroke and an elliptical one corresponding to the outward one.
