Abstract

The gas stream is contacted with a conc. aq. soln. of a water-sol. prim. monoamine, (I) with a sec. C-atom bound to the amino group), at 20-100 degrees C and a partial pressure of CO2 of 0.07-70 atmos. to absorb the CO2-contg. acid gases. The absorption sol. is subsequently regenerated by heating at 50-170 degrees C and 0.07-3.5 atmos to desorb the CO2. The process is useful for removing CO2-contg. acid gases such as CO2, H2S, SO2, CS2, COS and O- adn S-derivs. of 1-4C hydrocarbons from gas streams using conc. aq. solns. of amines such as 2-amino-1-propanol, 2-amino-1-butanol, 2-amino-3-methyl-1-butanol, 2-amino-1-pentanol, 2-amino-1-hexanol and 2-aminocyclohexanol. The amine solns. give good absorption of the CO2-contg. gases, and desorption is more rapid and more complete than when using prior art amine solns. such as monoethanolamine soln.
