Abstract

Axial forces measurements on a rotating shaft or similar component, can be produced by rapid response. The measurements are required for the drives of dredging equipment or ship's propellers etc. The sensing system consists of a pressure box mounted on two sections of the shaft. The box is in a chamber and uses the strain gauge measuring bridge principle. The shafts are linked via flexible couplings of flanges (10) such that the deformation of the flanges caused by the forces generated are transmitted to the pressure box.
