Abstract

A catalyst contg. Fe and Fe/Cu as active constituent, for use in redn. of CO using H2, with formation essentially of a 1-4C hydrocarbon mixt., is prepd. by (i) pptn. of complex salts Mex/fe(CN)6/y, where Me is an ion of Fe and/or Cu; x is 1-4; and y is 1-3; (ii) sepn. and drying of the pptd. salts; (iii) redn. using >=stoichiometric amts. of H2 or a H2/CO mixt. at 200-500 degrees C for 2-20 hrs., according to the principal patent. The addn. concerns prepn. of the catalyst: (a) by thermal decompsn. at 200-500 degrees C of the pptd. and dried salts in absence of H2 or H2/CO; or (b) by mixing the pptd. and dried salts with a support, followed by conversion into tablets or pastilles, or extrusion of the mixt., and then either redn. using H2 or H2/CO, or thermal decompsn. at 200-500 degrees C in absence of H2 or H2/CO mixts. Compared with previous catalysts, this catalyst can be produced in economic conditions, and shows a relatively high selectivity in the reaction of CO with H2, with formation of 1-4C hydrocarbon mixts.
