Abstract

The alphanumeric visual display unit consists of a display medium between two sets of electrodes. The unit contains a group of electrode segments and a common counter electrode for each of the alphanumeric symbols to be displayed. The segments are arranged so as to produce a configuration of electrodes and connections avoiding any intersecting connections. the electrode segments are connected in pairs(9, 13 etc.) and an electrode of each pair functions in conjunction with the appropriate section(17) of the counter electrode. The counter electrode is divided into an equal number of isolated sections.
