Abstract

The machine bores a hole underneath a road, dykes or water-course and simultaneously lines it with pipe, having a driven shaft with a loosening tool at one end for the spoil and passing through a seal in a bulkhead at one end of a housing. At the time of boring the housing is inserted in the pipe for part of its length, and pipes are connected to the inside of it, one delivering fluid under pressure and the other discharging the spoil. A balance pipe (15) is connected at one end to the fluid pipe (9) near the bulkhead (2), and at the other has a free outlet, adjustable for height, outside the hole, from a standpipe (16) discharging into an overflow (17). The standpipe is so dimensioned that the entire flow can be handled without appreciable pressure loss.
