Abstract

The fluorescent light circuit can be switched on instantaneously without requiring the use of a starter. This will extend the effective life of the fluorescent tube to approximately twice that of conventional tubes. The triggering circuit contains a capacitance (c) and an inductance (L) in series with the fluorescent tube and the series switch. The thermal starter is removed and the necessary over voltage for triggering the fluorescent tube is derived from the C L combination. The capacitor, inductance and series switch are embedded in the resin which has good electrical, thermal and acoustic insulating properties. It will not be necessary to fit the fluorescent tube on a support rail.
