Abstract

Novel 3-N-phenylcarbamoyl-4-hydroxy-1,2-(benzo)pyrones are of formula (I). In the formula R1 is CH3 and R2 is H, or R1 and R2 together form a condensed benzene nucleus. R3 is Ph opt. substd. 1-3 times by halogen or (m)ethyl, isopropyl, CF3, NO2 and/or CN; provided that, when R1 and R2 form a condensed benzene nucleus, R3 is not Ph, 4-nitrophenyl, 3-trifluoromethyl phenyl or Ph only substd. by a halogen. (I) are insecticides, partic. useful against plant parasites, esp. Coleoptera, e.g. Leptinotarsa decemlineata and Anthomonus grandis, in cultivation of vegetables or cotton, and also against ectoparasites, e.g. Lucilia sericata. (I) are also useful against the housefly, Aedes aergypti and Sitophilus granarius. A claimed cpd. is 3-N-(4-trifluoromethyl phenyl) carbamoyl-4-hydroxycoumarin.
