Abstract

The self-activating sealing ring is for use between high-pressure pipes, and has a peripheral gap extending from the central bore for part of its diameter. The gap leads to an annular chamber (13) concentric to the central bore (12), and which is joined by a second peripheral gap to the atmos. A seal (17) is fitted in the annular chamber, separating the two gaps from each other, and typically in the form of a hollow metal ring, in whose wall nearest the central bore openings are formed. The ring sections (5, 6) on opposite sides of the gaps (14, 15) can be aligned in relation to each other. One section can fit in a recess formed in the other.
