Abstract

The chair has a seat, and a backrest adjustable for height in relation to it on an upright support pivoting on the seat at the bottom end. Underneath the seat is an operating handle for a locking device securing the support in one of several angular positions, into which it is moved either by the user leaning against it or by a spring. The handle is also coupled to a mechanism adjusting the backrest height in relation to the seat, and if desired to one for the height of the seat-and-backrest assembly. The backrest support (9) has a tailpiece (15) extending horizontally past the pivot mounting (12) and whose free end works with the locking device. The latter pivots on a vertical axis (20) under the action of the handle (26) in opposition to a return spring (52). The backrest height adjusting mechanism has a second locking device, working in conjunction with a flexible component (45) sliding inside the outer part of the backrest support (11).
