Abstract

Device for sepg. liquids of different specific gravity includes a closed vessel with a mixture feed pipe feeding a horizontal distributor. A separating region has an outlet for light liquid. A reservoir for heavy liquid is sepd. from it by a baffle. This extends the whole width of the vessel and has openings at the bottom and top. The reservoir has a heavy liquid outlet. It has a series of filters which trap light liq. and which are placed across the heavy liq. flow path across the whole width of the vessel. The sepg. region is higher than the reservoir. The baffle is at 20-60 degrees to the vertical so that the sepg. region has a greater area at the top than at the bottom. Used esp. to separate oil and water. The filters can be replaced individually without drawing them through a residual oil layer.
