Abstract

The hydropneumatic vibration damper is particularly for a motor vehicle suspension system, having a piston fixed to a rod and dividing the interior of a cylinder, filled with damping fluid, into two compartments. The piston rod passes out of the cylinder through a seal at the top, and a compesanting chamber is provided for the fluid. The piston (4) is mounted roughly halfway along the rod (3) which in turn passes out of the cylinder (2) though seals at both ends. One at least of the chambers formed by the inside of the cylinder, the piston, the rod and the rod seals has a connection (9, 10) to the compensation chamber.
