Abstract

Ventilation sheath for improvement of conditions round tree roots etc. is composed of segments, and has a polygonal cross section, typically square. The apertures in the segments can be situated between the corners, giving as wide a cross-sectional free area as possible. The apertures can be at an angle other than 90 deg. to the outside segment surface, allowing air flow in the upwards direction. Connectors can be provided at the segment ends, typically hooks snapping into engagement with apertures in the adjacent ones. After a hole has been dug to accommodate the sheath round the tree, the space between its outside and the earth can be filled with gravel.
