Abstract

Lock for the cover of a centrifugal washing machine, with the cover above the drum, is formed by an operating shaft extending down into the machine cabinet, and a pivoting handle above the cover, fixed on the shaft. In addition the locking arrangement includes a for ked bracket on the driving motor and a sliding detail fixed on a guide bracket when the motor stops. A lever on the operating shafts has a curved profile, the rotary path of which intersects the path of the sliding detail, so that unless the sliding detail is engaged in the fork the full movement of the laver is prevented. A torsion spring coiled on the operating shaft presses against the lever and against the sliding detail. The lock conforms of safety requirements in that the movable cover can only be opened when the drum has stopped or at least has only a harmless amount of turning force left.
