Abstract

Sewing machine with a worktable, a movable foot for pressing the fabric against the feeder, and a pedal for starting and stopping the machine, has an electrical circuit embracing the worktable and feeder, together with the presser foot which is isolated from them. A device responds to the closing of the circuit when the presser foot makes contact with the worktable or the feeder, so as to stop the machine. The foot is locked securely against rotary motion, and moves only in a plane parallel to that of the worktable.
