Abstract

A sewing machine for assembling two annular bands of fabric of different elasticities comprises a stitching head and associated work table and a support for the bands comprising pref. a triangular array of three pulleys of which one at least is driven and around which the bands are located whereby the bands are rotated through 360 degrees through the stitching posn. Immediately upstream of the stitching posn. is a positioning device to ensure the superimposed bands and guided accurately through the stitching position and after assembly of the bands a removal device (pref. a suction tube) is provided to remove the bands from the sewing machine. The sewing machine is used partic. in the assembly of swimming trunks, corsets, panty hose, underclothes etc. The bands are assembled more accurately than when they are guided manually through the stitching posn. The stitching operation is also quicker, thereby reducing costs.
